aggression and viral infection

Hi everyone,

I am hoping someone could shed some light on this because I am very confused.

Last week, my son came down with some kinda viral infection - first mild

congestion (I hate this - many times, this is how it starts with him, very very

mild - but I need to pay attention), then vomiting started on Thursday with

slight fever. I called the school and they said many kids in his class have had

some viral stomach issues - vomiting and diarrhea. My son never had diarrhea.

After 24-36 hours, he was back to normal - fever went away and he began eating.

However, he started crying off and on (nonverbal so he cannot say what is

hurting him). Since he did this many times, I suspected ear infection or strep

and got him checked with my ped. Both were negative but throat was red

(probably, inflamed). I was told that this is viral and let it run its course.

However, lately he has become very impatient, impulsive, self-abusive and

aggressive with others - pinching his own cheeks, scratching, hitting, pulling

hair etc with me and his paras and teacher at school. Are all these behaviors

due to virus? His strep titers all always negative (tested twice so far).

He couldn't take any supplements while he was sick - was able to take only few

sips of water and then I started supplements on Monday. He refuses to take

supplements now or drink anything (hates water).

Any thoughts or info appreciated.
