Guest guest
Has anyone been able to connect dots between OCD and a pathogen other than strep? Our ASD son seems like he is being overtaken by OCD over the past year to 18 months. He is seven and did not previously have OCD symptoms. It is variable; he has some days that are not as marked as others. But over time it seems to be worsening: new compulsions appearing, and more anxiety about being able to carry them out. He tested negative for strep, and I believe we ran the right blood tests. And his recent stool test showed no strep in the gut. In fact his stool test, aside from marginal yeast, showed what looks like a remarkably gut. (He's been on a very clean GF/CF/SF diet for more than 3 years) We are stumped, and getting desperate. This OCD behavior is so much harder to deal with! Any thoughts appreciated!!!
Guest guest
it may be the yeast as well. how high was it? it can also be viral which wouldn't show on a stool test OCD Questions Has anyone been able to connect dots between OCD and a pathogen other than strep? Guest guest
Yes, actually, Bartonella is very associated with OCD. But, testing for Strep is appearing not very reliable since many of our children are producing inadequate antibodies to bacteria in general. Stool tests seem to be more accurate for our children for Strep. Bartonella testing seems to be accurate if you use a good lab, such as Fry Labs in Arizona. Guest guest
HOW you test is key, blood tests 4-6 weeks after issues start, OR if you see bettering with antibiotics watch for patterns, I can tell now when there is flare with out testing Re:OCD Questions Yes, actually, Bartonella is very associated with OCD. Guest guest
Some PANDAS docs are also finding mycoplasma as the culprit. The good news is it can also be treated with abx's and symptoms improved. You may find help at acn forums PANDAS site, an excellent resource! > > Has anyone been able to connect dots between OCD and a pathogen other than strep? Guest guest
Thank you for all your responses. You've given me a lot to consider! Christel, it's hard for me to decipher the yeast results. They are from Genova and I find the report vague. They found what they termed a "rare yeast," candida krusei but put it in the "non pathogenic" range. They also found heterodera ova under the microscope; called it a "non-human parasite". Gamma haemolytic Streptococcus was also present, but again is such a small quantity that they termed it non pathogen. Do any of these sound alarm bells? It seems like we would need to get that parasite out of there!! Thanks again everyone!! Re:OCD Questions Yes, actually, Bartonella is very associated with OCD. Guest guest
hum not sure what to tell you about non human parasites, wonder if they mean it's not one humans typcially get??? would call them on that one. the GAMMA typically shows with kids who develope PANDAS.....I personally would treat!
