I eat moderate amounts of unprocessed meats, and a lot of low carbohydrate

vegetables in a variety of colors. I use unprocessed fats, and look for grass

fed butter. The coconut oil helps my body produce ketones, and enable me to run

on fats instead of carbohydrates. I use different spices, turmeric, ginger, and

many others. I take basic supplements, B, C, cod liver oil, A from fish(my cod

liver oil is not high in A), E, calcium and magnesium citrate powder(300mg twice

a day). I also take some gray, moist sea salt for minerals. The doses are not

high. As for fats, I read a lot on how they are related to inflammation. I stay

away from transfats, and too many omega 6 fats, as they cause inflammation. The

animal fats, and coconut oil are a mix of saturated, monounsaturated, and

polyunsaturated.

raising our blood sugar. Most of my nutrition reading is from the 1970s onward

to today-from many books, and now the internet. I am in several groups, fibro,

and others. We share a lot. I keep on learning and listening.

I apologize to you as there was some member who thought that the whole world

needed to be on this. I just wanted to say that everyone is different and each

person does need to be analyzed and tested for the levels of hormones, minerals,

vitamins and test your intrinsic factor which reflects the level you metabolize.

I have fibromylagia and was having pains different from the normal Sacral Iliac

Pain, it was Bone Pain and intense and my legs would give out from underneath

me. I now had experienced this expression and did not want to experience any

others.

I thought I had a low Vitamin B12 but on testing my Vitamin D3 was dangerously

low and my endocrinologist said that Vit D 3 has been epidemic in our country

for a while probably coming from the warnings of sun bathing ! I have a firm

belief that Pain Doctors are doing patients a dis service by not doing a work

up on hormones, minerals, and vitamins for deficiencies.

Research shows that Vitamin D 3 reduces pain and so do hormones. Dr Tennants

" Survival Handbook for Intractable Pain Patients " he discussed the important of

supplements and nutrition. Pain topics.org also has a resource page with over

200 articles to help with pain.

I so believe in the gate theory on pain and I feel my gate has even stuck open

and does not have a trigger to shut it but I do remember the year I feel

triggers of three surgeries caused my fibromyagia. I had bouts of immune

suppression and my Barr Epstein Lab Values showed levels of infection.

Research also has found chronic and intractable pain patients has " Substance P "

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Substance_P

I also read that the immune system is 95 per cent in the gut so the gut has to

be healthy.

You have made many important points and the important ones, knowing thyself and

what to do to take care o yourself. If I don't get sleep for three days, I ask

my Doctor for sleep medicine so I and get restorative sleep. My sleep study

confirmed what I knew, I am a light sleeper, tossing and turning, waking and

sleep, waking and then at eight am., I gp into REM sleep and when I worked, I

had already had been up three hours missing my REM sleep.

Sorry I took so long to reply, I also want to do everything I can to have

all the support I can get and it is a known factor most doctors are not trained

in Nutrition, Alternative (they consider Physical Therapy , alternative)

medicine to treat the body.

I do research as I have not had complete care and I think presenting research

to our Doctors, helps them and not hinders. I made the comment when I went to my

Pain Doctor that it is so sad that it is so important to do pee tests on urine

to make sure I am not a druggie rather than all initial pain patients should

have a metabolic panel (includes vitamin, minerals, and other enzymes essential

to body function). The main, main , test that is forgotten is the intrinsic

factor, which reflects how well the body absorbs through the gut.

Also, if probotic are not addressed, the gut off balanced is not efficient gut.

I was on hormone replacement therapy and doing just fine until the small study

done that it caused breast cancer, my Doctor took me off only to find my risk

was low as I was taking low dose and had some testrosone which helped me.

Jul 19, 2012 – When the estrogen is high, the brain is more capable of releasing

endorphins to help reduce the pain. When the estrogen levels are low, like ...

>> I am also a believer of anti-inflammation diet and have posted the sites but

a basic search by typing in anti-inflammatory supplements and advocate having a

mineral, vitamin, hormone and intrinsic factor lab work before taking

supplements as then you can zero in what the lab tests show.

I also find out from research that Vitamin D3 reduces pain and there are huge

deficiencies in immune depressed and pain patients (most pain patients are

subject to immune depression) re: paintopics.org and

http://Pain-Topics.org/VitaminD

I also found that I do not have to do jumping jacks but myofascial physical

therapy has helped me and it can be researched on you tube.

I guess is what I am saying is nowadays there are contacts you can be tested,

find your deficiencies, then be treated not leaving Nutrition, supplements, and

vitamins out. My Pain clinic has a " team that makes your plans to include

counselors, rehab specialists, physical therapists, mind therapy.

I have had my bio-feedback training (which is good), cognitive training

that works for me , Reality Therapy by Glassier, and Support Group, this

one which has saved my life.

I agree with most of what you say but comparing human to dogs is apple and

oranges : ) Ketosis and anti gluten diets are good as some people are allergic

but must be balanced. I do not believe keeping your body in a permanent state

of ketosis and as a follower of Atkins for years, meat, eggs, lettuce, limited

vegetables, diet jello, freezing cool whip to replace ice cream really is not

healthy either so I believe that everyone needs to know their nutritional

quirks.

Tumeric, ginger, drinking a glass of lemon juice, eating an avocado a day,

organic meats, no grains, doesn't hurt me and my Doctor recommended the same

things

The American Heart Association's Position on coconut oil :

Where does the American Heart Association weigh in on coconut oil as an aid to

weight loss? " I would be very pessimistic about this, says Eckel, MD, the

Association's spokesman on nutrition. He says he's concerned about the effects

of high levels of saturated fat. " This is going to be a cholesterol-raising

diet. "

He says he also doubts claims that coconut oil can boost metabolism. " People

have looked in the past as to whether MCTs have thermogenic properties, and I

think the answer is pretty well negative. Generally, saturated fats tend not to

be as well [metabolized], so if it does have any ability to promote heat

generation, it's going to be minimal. "

As far as understanding the Science behind " it " readers have to read the

researched real science, rather than theories, hypothesis, and info encouraging

Limiting balanced diet without testind and contacting your Doctor as low carb

diets effect medication effects in those taking insulin, heart medicine, and

blood pressure medicine.

The science states " Another aspect of insulin secretion is control of ketosis;

in the non-ketotic state, the human body stores dietary fat in fat cells (i.e.,

adipose tissue) and preferentially uses glucose as cellular fuel. By contrast,

low-carbohydrate diets, or more properly, diets that are very low in nutritive

carbohydrates, evoke less insulin (to cover the ingested glucose in the blood

stream), leading to longer and more frequent episodes of ketosis. Some

researchers suggest that this causes body fat to be eliminated from the body,

although this theory remains controversial, insofar as it refers to excretion of

lipids (i.e., fat and oil) and not to fat metabolism during ketosis.[51]

The example given to me is that look at ketosis as a state of starvation when

the body stores it fat more rather than burn it in order to save itself.

(Like hibernation animals do ).

There are so many formulas, studies, etc, you are right in doing what your body

needs. I think as pain patients we need to request the nutritional assistance

and the testing so we can improve our immune systems and help us to fight pain.

I don't think any thing suggest to you or I would hurt us and you can find

Tumuric chewing gum at the Health Food Store if you do not want to use it on

your foods.

The one area I have to work on is the Omega Three acids and eating more fish

etc. Thank you for sharing as I enjoy learning new things but when someone says

" This is the only way " (not you) I say thank you and go research. Keep on

getting better .Bennie
