Guest guest
I am getting so fed up with this search turning up nothing. I would love to know where these " Dr. Feelgood " s are that the anti-opioid crusaders always keep talking about! Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to find a caring doctor that is willing to prescribe the necessary medications to relieve my pain and do it responsibly, but there aren't any of them willing to take me and/or my insurance. I can't get a pump, I can't get Actiq, my Duragesic should be 50% higher (twice as high according to my previous PM, but I refused to increase the Duragesic even higher), I can't get a pain doctor, I can't get a pump doctor, and my oncologist ditched me (by the way, I've had abandonment issues since childhood and this didn't help, especially since he was the first doctor to seem to care). I'm seeing my PCP again tomorrow afternoon, but I know that he will blow me off and if he doesn't help me I'm not sure what I will do. I have cancer, but because it isn't going to kill me in the next 6, 12, or 18 months, I get treated like it is benign. No one wants to treat my pain for years, so I don't even get the benefit of having the cancer diagnosis. Opioids are the only thing that touches my pain. Marinol (dronabinol, aka synthetic THC) doesn't help with my pain (and neither does the natural alternative). I truly believe that this cancer can't kill me fast enough, but my family needs me. Thanks for listening to (reading) what I have to say (read). I can't talk to my wife about this and all of my friends from before I got sick have long since abandoned me. I think I just need to be reminded that other people have been through this and successfully made it to the other side. If a doctor ever promises to keep you comfortable while you die, tells you that you deserve the best quality of life possible, or anything like that, they're lieing to you. My Neurosurgeon said that I'll never have the quantity of life that I deserve, but he promised to give me the best quality of life possible, until the time came to actually do anything about it. I'm so tired of dealing with doctors who view opioids as these dangerous things that must be used conservatively or, " better " yet, not at all. I have no life with this current regime and I do two things scare my daughter (during severe pain flares) and disappoint my daughter (the rest of the time). Thanks for being here Steve M in PA
