Guest guest
Frances! I (luckily?) had insomnia after I read your post and curled up to my own netflix with your suggestion. Wow, the mother definitely has BPD! What's crazy is I don't even think she's portrayed as crazy as our nadas actually are. She at least expresses some remorse and says she's happy she had her son. My nada tells us all the time what a mistake it was to have kids and how we've robbed her of her life. And I totally agree with you on how they portrayed the son. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting but they definitely made it seem like he was ungrateful and had to learn how to deal with his mom (how many times have we heard that??). Great recommendation, does anyone else have a movie rec? > > Hey! > > Did anyone see " Smother " ? I just watched it on Netflix, and it hit a little close to home... the dogs, the misguided " charity " to random groups, the inability to hold a job, the suspicions, the crazy moods, the " how could you " in ridiculous contexts, the " it's all about me " , the random pains and illnesses, etc... I really could go on. > > I wonder if that was intentional. I'm a little uncomfortable about how they portrayed the son. The movie seemed to play him off as overreacting, but maybe I'm just seeing that because I'm defensive and guilty about NC =P ah well... it was a good way to spend 90 minuts of a Saturday afternoon. > > -Frances >
Guest guest
Just watched it last night after reading your post .I think this is what a BPD mother looks like to outsiders . I cant tell you how many times ,after I went NC ,that my friends or co workers think I should listen to my Nada . " Sure she is weird or a little nuts , but shes your mom and she loves you " . If they had a normal relationship with their mom they just cant see how it could be " that bad " .Hearing things like that made me think no one would ever beleave me , so I never talked about the abuse . thank God a few people really knew her and were there to help me get the will to get away . when I doubted my own sanity and almost lost my own will compleatly ,Her oldest friend took me to the side one day and said run , even if you have to go with nothing but the shirt on your back get away . That saved my life. But most people cant see the abusiveness and to them your mom is " just a little weierd " . > > > > Hey! > > > > Did anyone see " Smother " ? Strage as the movie is it is better portriat of a BPD parent in some ways I think > > Hey! > > Did anyone see " Smother " ? Guest guest
I thought the book was better, but the movie is really fun to watch (and the book references the 5 college area that I live in now! my friend works at the 24 hr cumberland farms that augusten bought cigarettes at when he gave that guy his number =P) I always pegged her as NPD with psychotic breakthroughs, so I'll have to watch it again with my BPD-sensors on =) > > > > Hey! > > > > Did anyone see " Smother " ?
