Guest guest
Here is an article I found and read recently by Judith Herman, author of Trauma and Recovery, the seminal work on the importance of conceiving a coherent naarative of one's own traumatic experience/s in order to achieve mastery of our lives that have been shattered, shaped or warped by abuse. This article details the " darkside " of other peoples' denial of our victimization in the context of sexual abuse/sexual assault survivorship but I think it is also relevant to the kind of denial/blame/shame we get from others as KOs.It is about the dynamic of denial of victimization and blame of the victim as a dishonoring of their experience.Reading this article,I was struck by how similar this denial/shunning/shaming is to " honor killing " where the victim of rape is killed for dishonoring her family for being victimized rather than supported through her trauma and protected from her perp. Warning: this article might be triggering--it is called " Justice from the Victim's Perspective " http://www.cha.harvard.edu/vov/publications/Justice%20from%20The%20Victims%20per\ spective.pdf
