Guest guest
We saw Dr. Warren Levin this week and he prescribed Diflucan for my 3 year old. We are happy someone is finally taking her yeast situation seriously but are having second thoughts about this drug. She is only 28 lbs and he prescribed 100mg 1x/day for 30 days. Her pediatrician says this dose is way too high and will seriously " mess her up. " He said he would give our daughter a singe dose (1 day) and if it didn't work, another single dose a couple of weeks later and that is it. But I've read things saying that could be dangerous because if she develops resistant candida there isn't really much that can treat it. What do you all say about this? How to sort out the disagreement in this case? Also has anyone seen Dr. Levin? If so have you found him to be helpful? Thanks! PS In addition to the liver toxicity issue I saw alopecia listed as a side effect. She already has this and we just got most of her hair back so I'm hesitant to mess with that. Guest guest
First you could try speaking with a pharmacy you trust,do you use a compounding pharmacy?Pharmacist know the safety for children best.Second, the ped would say that about giving a days worth because they do not know just how viscious yeast is,in adults and these little guys.I have heard most yeast is resistant to Diflucan. You could do a couple of things-send a stool sample which actually tests the strains of yeast and sensitivies to medications, try the one round of Diflucan then check liver enzymes-that is the big concern here or tell him you are concerned with the safety and wish to try a different med. My son had three rounds of Diflucan and it barely touched him,he is now on his 3rd round of Amphotericin B.It works very well,he had to have it a second time because he was on an antiviral without an antifungal on board and now time 3 because I was gone for a week and the sitter refused to give his supplements-including probiotics and antifungal and it grew back.UGH,it is such a beast,it causes the majority of his ASD behaviors. Hope this helps you. To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Thu, March 11, 2010 8:09:20 PMSubject: Diflucan safe? Alternatives? We saw Dr. Warren Levin this week and he prescribed Diflucan for my 3 year old.
