Guest guest
Can you give more details? Dosage, frequency, etc. Personally, I don't think you should do anything you can't afford but if you can afford it, then continue and we can try to help along. Another option is to switch to acyclovir which may be covered by your insurance. Cheryl~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~@midian42~ My DAN put my son on valtrex since early Jan. It has been 2 month, we didn't see any change (good or bad) at all. Should we continue? Valtrex is pretty expensive, $460 per month out of pocket. BTW, I don't think the DAN put him on valtrex based on lab result, basically just try and see if it works... we are suppose to refill soon, I am trying to decide what to do. any suggestions? Guest guest
you could try virastop instead, or monolauren. these are over the counter, a lot cheaper. if valtrex did not do anything, these might not either, as they are not as strong. we have not done any real antiviral therapy, we have valtrex at home but have been chelating so that's on hold. we did just get viral titers back, and he was very high for measles... maybe do a test (of course that costs money too) - we did neuroscience, as the quest labbs test is seemingly unreliable for this. we did do one week of monolauren a while back and he got a nasty rash. when we started chelating with dmsa, he got the same rash, only worse. this is why we felt he was viral, and the test backed this up.MATT OTo: mb12 valtrex Sent: Fri, March 12, 2010 4:29:14 PMSubject: Re: should we contine valtrex? Guest guest
I don't have the Rx with me now, I think something like 250mg, 3 times a day. I did double check the dosage though this newsgroup, it seems OK. It is not that I absolutly can't afford it. There are other things I can try if I can save the money. In most cases, if someone response to valtrex, how long does it take to see any changes? I read some posts about watching viral titers, but I am not even sure my DAN have done the lab. Thanks for replying my post. My DAN put my son on valtrex since early Jan. It has been 2 month, we didn't see any change (good or bad) at all. Should we continue? Guest guest
I have tried virastop, no obvious change. I mentioned to my DAN that my son doesn't get sick often, but his beahvior/stim/attention/sleep get much worse when someone around him gets sick, I "suspect" it is viral related. I guess My DAN ordered valtrex and LDN based my description. Which lab checks for viral titers? We are doing chelation too. why do you put valtrex on hold? I read valtrex will help chelation. In general, is 2month long enough to test if a anti-viral med work or not? Thanks, My DAN put my son on valtrex since early Jan. It has been 2 month, we didn't see any change (good or bad) at all. Guest guest
It can be done through a local lab and covered by insurance. HHV1-6 are the titers. No, 2 months is not long enough. If you can't look at the titers (go ahead and pull them now, tho) then consider changing antivirals. You can switch to Famvir or Acyclovir (acyclovir should be given 5x a day, tho. Guest guest
My son may be going on Valtrex soon. I was told by our DAN docotr that they get it through a pharmacy in New Jersey that can get it covered on your insurance, as well as MB-12 if you are interested. The pharmacy is Hopewell Pharmacy. You can call them to see if they can get your son's prescription covered. The number is . Hope this helps! Barbara > > My DAN put my son on valtrex since early Jan.
