Guest guest
It's not any more or less effective but valcyclovir isn't available in the states to my knowledge. I've never had a pharmacy give me generic and they've all told me it's not available. So unless you are in Canada or otherwise outside of the US, you won't be able to get the generic. Cheryl~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~@midian42~ Is Valtrex more effective? We're taking Valtrex for 1 month now but wondering if we could switch in order to save $$. Guest guest
I hate to disagrree but we did get the generic valcyclovir from our Walgreens in Massachusetts. I think it IS common in the US to get the generic. Generally, generics are identical to the original. My son has certainly responded with all out rashes from the valcyclovir. Guest guest
Do you think it's a recent development? I noticed it being mentioned on the memo I got from the drug company re: what is on formulary/preferred and what is not. Guest guest
It may be. But I know my insurance gives preference to generic and will always fill generic first unless name brand is specifically requested in writing. And they still don't ship it out to me. And I do recall asking them recently if there was a generic yet. I know our bottle says Valacyclovir but when you look at the capsule, it's a Valtrex capsule. So I have no clue what the issue is. Obviously is getting the generic. Color me baffled. Guest guest
We can only hope. But I get mine 3 months at a time so it'll be a while before I get a refill. Hopefully by then we'll get generic. Guest guest
We've been on Valtrex for several years and in December or January our Insurance changed us to generic -- we've noticed no difference except the price $10 vs. $35 we paid for brand name. > > Is Valtrex more effective?
