Guest guest
Jennete - Only people who live with dogs understand how a hairy dog can be such a pain reliever. Stress reducer too. I agree 110 percent. We have two rescues dogs (15 - 25 pounds). One is part Corgi, and has a double coat and is constantly shedding. The other has a smooth, short coat and sheds very little. They are both " love sponges " and soak up all the petting, and lap time they can get. If it is too hot, they are laying very close by. As you said, they are great for stress reducers, and taking my mind off the pain. The hospital that I work in has several therapy dogs. Complete with hospital ID Badges. The owners bring them to patient rooms so they can interact with them. It is a very successful program. May you have a pain - tolerable day Tom S. Guest guest
I, also understand. I have 3 dogs. Two standard poodles (the big ones) and one toy poodle. Four years ago I was run down by an SUV while I was crossing a street in NYC. When I came home, all three laid around the bed all day with me. The little one, Izzie, climbed in and nestled up against my side and wouldn't leave unless I got up. She wouldn't go downstairs for her food or walks and Steve had to carry her down so she would do those things. About a year into my rehab, I was doing specialized hand therapy with a PT and I would exercise my fingers and hands by stroking her and twirling her curls as she lie beside me. Not only was it good therapy, it relaxed me and eased my pain and anxiety. To this day, she still lies plastered to my side when I nap or sleep and my hand still strokes and curls her hair...it eases the frequent panic attacks I get and helps me fall asleep. During my rehab, I was home alone at least 12 hours a day during the week and I was forced to get out of bed, go downstairs and take them out into the yard. I found myself laughing my head off frequently...poodles have an amazing sense of humor and try to get you to laugh at their antics. It has been so good for my mind and soul. Sometimes they are real pains in the butt, too! Vivien ---Tom S. wrote: Jennette - Only people who live with dogs understand how a hairy dog can be such a pain reliever. Stress reducer too.
