Guest guest
Dear friends: I have a chronic knee condition that has left me in a lot of pain. The problem began in February 2011, and it has continued since then. I had surgery in April 2012, and that was supposed fix the problem. But the bottom line is, after months of more pain and lots of physical therapy and splint use, I am still in pain. The core issue is that my knee won't straighten. That inflexibility causes a whole host of other pain and problems. I'm currently undergoing splint treatment to force the knee straight. The orthopedist says if the treatment is working right, it should feel like I would " want to claw my skin off. " At the same time, I've been seeing a pain management specialist, which has left life somewhat bearable. But even he is reluctant to understand my level of pain. His attitude is, " If it hurts so much, don't do it. " I had been wearing the splint two hours a day. And that's one thing. But starting this week, the orthopedist has instructed me to wear the splint around the clock (as much as possible). The pain has been off the charts. If in three weeks the full-time splint hasn't worked, I have to go into a cast for two weeks. The orthopedist has demonstrated the pressure on my knee. I'm afraid I will lose my mind if I have to put up with that level of pain around the clock for two weeks. Today, I'm seeing my pain management specialist. I'm hoping he can adjust my medicines so that I am able to tolerate this treatment. The bottom line is, I'm afraid. And I'm so angry at my orthopedist. Well, I'll stop there. Thanks for listening. I'd appreciate any uplifting thoughts or encouragement.
Guest guest
, You need a second opinion. Find another ortho doc and take copies of your records from the other doctor with you. Is the current doctor the surgeon who operated on your knee? I don't think I would allow him to force your knee. It does not sound professional to me.
