Guest guest
Its strange here Neurontin here is massively expensive. Lyrica is half the price of it & there are no generics to either available in Australia. So I ended up changing from Neurontin (which was working fine) to the Lyrica as it was half the price $180 per month instead of $360. I would prefer to be on Neurontin as I do get blurred vision especially in the mornings on Lyrica. However I can't come off these drugs because the nerve pain is just too much. I would love to go back to the thin person I was. However I am accepting if I want to be reasonably pain free then I have to carry the extra weight that goes with the meds. Oxycontin is very well known for causing fluid retention & weight gain. The fluid retention is not helped by Diuretics either. I was at a group appointment with my pain clinic when you see the Drs (inc Specialists) Physio, Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Physio. Nurses etc. They had all the data there that they have collected on all meds that have been used on their patients. Oxycontin is one of those that you will either put on the weight or won't, same as many other drugs. That is why some get some side effects when others don't. However they went back over my notes from over the years & every time I was put on Oxycontin my weight ballooned. When I was taken off it my weight dropped straight back down. Seeing as Nerve pain is not really helped by Opiates anyway other than to really make you tired so you sleep through the pain it was decided that I should come off it. However I am not happy with the 5mg per week lowering of the dosage. It will take me forever to come off the 20mg 3 times daily at that rate. I have successfully cut out the lunch time dose without a problem. Now I have cut my night dose to 10mg even though my dr thinks this is too quick. I am thinking if I start to suffer withdrawal then I can go to the long drawn out way. However would prefer to come off it quicker. I lost 7kg (14 lb) in one week just from having my medications changed around! That is a massive weight loss for anyone & yeah I am very pleased about it as I hate the weight I am at present. So I am hoping with the lowering of my oxycontin that this weight loss will continue. It has in the past but now to see if the Lyrica is also making me gain weight Alison
Guest guest
Good luck, the Lyrica has put about 40 lbs. on me. The only thing is I'm not sure that weight loss would be worth the horrible pain I get when I'm not on Lyrica. Carol (OK)
