Guest guest
Steve, I first heard of it back in 1998 when they told me I had it in my left shoulder. Yes the symptoms are many different things pain, tired, soreness and it can be in one area or the whole body. If I can remember right they told me it affects tissues. what happens is our tissues inflame/swell causing pain around joints, muscles and nerve endings. Don't quote me on this. Look it up on google.com Good luck Toni >Steve K. wrote: " So, does anyone have any idea what is causing this upswing in fibromyalgia? I didn't hear of it in my grandparents time. I didn't hear of it in my grandparents time. " Hi Steve Way, way, way, back when, it was simply lumped in with other unexplained things as " distemperature " (an upset state of bodily humours). Of course in those days, hiccups were called " drunken mannes coughe. " <grin> When I was a kid, the doctors said I had " rheumatism. " Then, thirty years ago or so, it was changed to fibrostitis. Then it was changed to fibromyalgia. Then it was changed to fibromyalgia with myofascial pain. Goodness only knows what they'll call it next. :-) Heck, maybe " they " will actually find out what fibromyalgia really is and what causes it. Then it won't be thought of as a catch all syndrome anymore. -- Lyndi

Then it won't be thought of as a catch all syndrome anymore. I would certainly love for that to happen. I described it to my counselor, how mornings feel like with Fibromyalgia, and my neuropathy pain. It feels like I have been beaten all over with a stick, and someone set my right thigh on fire. The fire, is the neuropathy. No doubt, I have mentioned to the group that I have had Fibromyalgia since I was about 11 years old. It became much worse around 1989, so I saw a Rheumatologist, and was officially diagnosed. The medical community could rename it pink winkie syndrome, but it would still be the same problem. How's that for a bit of silliness? Kaylene ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Guest guest
Steve, The classic symptom that doctors know when it is fibromyagia is when people say it hurts to have your clothes on. I have even had people say even my hair hurts, which meant the hair on their arms everywhere. So it is more than tissue it is they very core of every nerve. There is a theory of what is called the substance P theory > " So, does anyone have any idea what is causing this upswing in > fibromyalgia? I didn't hear of it in my grandparents time. Guest guest
I don’t have it ,Well let me say “yet” but I read everyone’s post on here and I think fibromyalgia is a term just like neuropathy, which I have. If you look fibromyalgia up, your going to get a whole bunch of symptoms, and it seems like every where you look there is different ones, I believe its a term they use when they cant pinpoint whats really wrong or know what to do about it. Just like when they say I have a neuropathy. All it means is I have a problem with nerves some where . They don’t know where its at, how to treat it or cure it. Just my thoughts. Guest guest
MODERATOR'S NOTE: RSD stands for Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. It is also known as Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome. A simple Google search turns up a few thousand websites on the condition, including this excellent site: www.rsds.org So, what is rsd? I have been told that I may have CMT in addition to osteo, fibro, arthritis, peripheral neuropothies, etc. I don't know this acronym. Thanks.
