Guest guest
Hi Bennie and all, Thanks for the information on an RA diet. I will have to check it out. I am still taking the Gabapentin (Neurontin). I have noticed that my leg cramping seems to be mellowing out but I still do not feel any improvement on my pain levels, unfortunately. I am having to pay for the Gabapentin so to me it is basically a waste of money I could be using elsewhere. One big question though, on the side affects of this medicine it includes weight gain. I have gained weight, more than usual (not so active in the cold winter months/pain). Has Anyone else had this noticeable gain of weight? I can't believe (in a way) that I ate so much extra food to have caused that, but then again, anything is possible I looked up Lyrica and it is supposed to be a more potent drug but with same (?) side affects (effects?) as Gabapentin. I sure hope my doctor gives me something that will help with the anxiety as I slowly decrease this med when her and I both agree it is time to and that it is not working. I feel bad that I didn't take (2) 300mgs yellow capsules twice a day of Gabapentin like my doctor said to try. My gut feeling was just to take it slowly and try it that way. I took it every 6 hours instead. I am glad I did because of the dog gone side effects, you know? Memory fog, bad leg cramping all of a sudden or just a muscle cramping for no reason, weight gain, etc. I am on the tall side but this weight gain and not being able to be active sucks Okay, I am done, please do reply/glad you all are here for all of us, hugs all around, luv ya, Coleen
Guest guest
Weight gain is the most common side effect I know of. I've never lost the 30 pounds I gained from being on a fairly high dose for 18 months. Since I had to keep increasing the dosage to get the effects that relieved my pain/neuropathy, I felt it best to just stop taking it, with doctor's advice on how to taper off. Never just quit taking gabapentin because you could have seizures, just ask for help tapering the dose over a couple of weeks. My doctor didn't tell me about the weight gain, but after talking to others and seeing my weight go steadily up, I believe gabapentin caused my weight gain. Oh, it helps to drink lots of water. Guest guest
Hi Jennette, Thank you I do drink lots of water and I never did before but since I can't be that active and I also live in a 5th wheel trailer, I go bonkers. So I chew bubble gum and yes I blow bubbles, and since one of the bubble gums I chew has a little sugar or sweetener in it, I drink the water to get past that taste which can be strong in the beginning. I pay games on Facebook. I make sure I move around and slowly walk a little. Do some light chores at my pain's convenience. I thank you for your input, it is very appreciated. My doctor didn't warn me about the weight gain either but then again I am on the state of Oregon's Insurance. If you are still reading, does anyone Understand Why You Gain weight with certain drugs? I thought about looking that up also. I have to take my stuff now as you start getting edgy when you get late on taking it I have to take out my bubble gum and take my pills now, yes, I am being a little silly and what not, but you have to be I sure wish that medicine would have helped me. It just took money out of my pocket, made me feel like an airhead sometimes, gave me muscle spasms/cramps, and made me gain weight. My s.o. even said look at all the sugar you are eating. I know this weight gain is unusual. I am going to make my doctor appointment this coming week. Thanks and hugs to all, Coleen ps. all input is appreciated very much and, I just want to go do what I used to do, be active, without the pain. > Jennette wrote: > Weight gain is the most common side effect I know of.
