,

I have so been there. It's called The Middle Class Squeeze.

I just had to sell my vehicle to keep my electric going thru the summer. I

was on temporary assistance to help with utilities. I used to be an

accountant. My disability got denied...yes again...and I have just about

nothing left.

Smartest thing I did was pay $31k for 1,100 sq ft house in the country.

There is cheap, rural, nice public transportation. A mini-van comes to my

house to pick me up. I used tonlive in $250k house...2,300 sq ft. Gone.

I have stenonosis, scoliois and burst discs in low back and neck. I got to

where I could not afford Any medication. Found out that long term use of

opiates can actually cause low back pain. (Dr. Drew)

Two years has helped the low back pain subside, but neck herniation is more

recent and very painful. I pray in time, it will heal more and be in less

pain.

Consider buying used tires with lots of good tread. And negotiate. My

credit is shot...embarrassing. I have no income and am terrified at the

thought of no electricity. No kids and an ex-husband who is out of state

and clueless still. (Our issue)

I have a girlfriend who hocked her engagement ring who has been helping me.

She's in foreclosure. I've considered taking in a roommate but everybody

wants my pills, NO CAN DO. Now, I lie and tell everyone I am just on

Cymbalta (thru free plan at needymeds.org) and they can't get high off that.

I use opiates sparingly. I can't afford to take as prescribed.

I was paying $643/mo for state insurance risk pool. Now I am not medicaid

eligible in my state cuz I don't have kids. Lucky for me, the free clinic

is nice.

Last decent dental plan capped braces at $1,000 per person. Negotiate,

negotiate and shop around. Cuz, they are all hurting.

And this economy has no end in sight. Not liking any candidates. Economies

run on cycles and it will eventually get better but when and at what cost?

Called the local pastor for a visit. I can't do this alone, without help.

And I definitely can't do this without God.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Ellen, the county has disability assistance through the " welfare " office. You

have to apply for it instead of financial aid. You will get Medicaid if you are

approved.

I am not eligible for Medicaid in my state because I do not have children.

However, I found that there is a little known program called Safety Net for

those falling thru the cracks. I found it at the mental health facility.

They will even pay for public transportation.

I am also trying for vocational rehab who will do a functional capacity

exam for free. They can declare me disabled or help me find work.

A social worker is coming out later today. They will help get the water

bill paid.

There are programs out there...it just takes a lot of digging.
