Guest guest
Good morning, Question for upcoming pre-ops (and obviously all you wonderful, experienced post-ops). 1. What are you bringing to the hospital? 2. What do I need to have at home waiting for me? Joni - 10 days pre-op Re: moving forward Thanks! Now I am terrified of course, that the date is coming so much sooner than expected! Plus I am worried about getting myself organized (getting the right foods/protein in the house, etc) in the middle of all of this. And I cant even think about leaving my mom for that long, even though she'll be in good hands. All that aside, I think this is a good thing in the midst of all that is going on... Guest guest
Joni, Just my two cents about the back scratcher....undoubtedly THE most useful tool ever made, BUT, try to get a wooden one, not a plastic one, because I borrowed one of my mom's plastic ones and broke it from using it too hard. If you want to email me your address privately, I have an extra brand new wooden backscratcher, I'd love to send your way. Sue
Guest guest
Joni, They also make Adult Liquid tylenol, which might be even better for you. That's what they gave me in the hospital, and what I bought when I came home. Sue

Guest guest
Joni, The things I used most at the hospital were my pillow, a small fan, a long back-scratcher (morphine gave me the itchies all over), catalogs to look at, and a pair of tongs to help in the bathroom. Other than that, I was happy in the hospital slippers and gowns, and too out of it to do much else. They give you lotion and shampoo and stuff for when you’re ready to shower. I wish I’d had a phone card. After I got home, all the foods I’d stocked up on didn’t appeal to me, so I sent my boyfriend out daily for different soups, dole juice bars, applesauce, water, mached potatoes, etc. Make sure you have your chewable vitamins and tylenol. I slept in a recliner that I rented for 3 weeks. It was absolutely necessary for me, as I couldn’t get out of bed or lie flat. - AA " Dicastro, Joan " wrote: > Good morning, > > Question for upcoming pre-ops (and obviously all you wonderful, experienced > post-ops). > > 1. Guest guest
Alice, Alice, Thanks for the suggestions.... I have my vitamins. Did you buy children's chewable Tylenol? Or is regular okay? For foods I have SF CIB, SF CIB hot chocolate, SF applesauce, bullion, and lots of cream soups (which I love anyway) I hate instant mashed potatoes, can I make/have real ones? Phone card, good idea, I'll pick one up over the weekend... Did you have to pay for anything in the hospital? Just seeing if I need to bring cash with me.... Joni - 10 days pre-op (can you believe it!).... Re: moving forward > > Thanks! Now I am terrified of course, that the date is coming so much sooner > than expected! Guest guest
Joni, You probably want to get the kids chewable Tylenol, and your pantry items sound great. Real mashed potatoes are fine... just make them VERY mashed. You can add some milk or cheese for extra protein. Don’t be surprised if you can only eat a bite or two at first. It really takes time. I just ate little bites of many things throughout the day. It will seem like you can’t get in any food, but just do the best you can. Water is the most important. I didn’t bring any cash or valuables to the hospital. They charge everything to your account. - AA " Dicastro, Joan " wrote: > Alice, > > Alice, > > Thanks for the suggestions.... I have my vitamins. Guest guest
another thing many find helpful is a wooden spoon to help with the wiping of the butt! IT REALLY helps, not a joke! Guest guest
Joanie: I had my surgery Aug 28th at NWH with Dr. Thayer. I brought a whole bunch of stuff but all I really needed was comfortable loose clothes for going home in and a pillow to hold against your tummy as you ride home. I didn't even wear my bra as it hit against the staples lol. Good Luck Barb
