Guest guest
Hi All, Wanted to give an update. I was denied disability after my hearing with a judge. I got assistance for winter heat and food. I've downgraded to a crappy cell phone that has horrible internet. I got a babysitting job through care.com. I earn $3.35 an hour. but the lady lets me lie down and even sleep when the baby sleeps. I slept 4 hours yesterday. I still don't know if I can keep up the pace. The family is lovely. I still can't afford cable, so I am saving up for an outdoor antenna. I am in a " jobs to work " program so the $16.00 bus fare is waived for 9 months. I'm also hoping for a car for $1,000. Thanks to those of you who helped me get back on my feet. I was truly surprised and appreciative as paper products are not allowed on food stamps. I still can't believe this is what my life has come to. My career as an int'l accountant is over. I lost everything, property, jewelry, car. One fall changed my life forever. I am only 48. I am appealing the SSDI ruling, but I heard on the news that it is expected to run out in 3 years. So, I imagine it will be hard for anybody to get. Ellen in TN
Guest guest
Ellen, I am sorry to hear that your appeal was denied. I am sorry you are facing such challenges. It sounds pretty rough, at best. You seem to be putting 1 foot in front of the other, which is sometimes all we can do. Be well, Jen wrote: > Hi All, > > Wanted to give an update. Guest guest
Ellen, I don't know if this was suggested but have you visited your local VR (Vocational Rehabilitation) office? I currently am not receiving disability as I was a stay at home mom to my girls and therefore I don't have enough credits. I am however considered disabled by the state. The VR office will review your medical paperwork and speak with your doctors. Once they determine you are disabled you can work with them for employment. I only work from home with companies that hire disabled persons. You would be surprised to know just how many companies allow you to telecommute when you are disabled. Personally, I only work part time because I can not stay in one position long and I break the four hours up depending on how I am feeling. I have been with this current company over a year now and it works perfectly for me. Hope that helps! Cherese > > > I got a babysitting job through care.com. Guest guest
Ellen: I am so sorry you find yourself in this situation, I definitely feel your pain. Social Security is going to run out in three years? Is this a fact? That's a terrifying prospect.
