Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I figured I would update on my surgery. It went by fast for me since I was sleeping <grin>. The surgeon told me that my deviated septum was far worse than he had originally seen in my nose. So, he had to remove extra cartilage as well as shave some bone down. Which made the surgery last longer than expected. So, I am hurting pretty bad! But, that's ok! :-) As I was coming out of the anesthesia, I began to feel the pain from the surgery pretty well until the nurses gave me my pain medication needed. Almost immediately after arriving in recovery as well! I was shaking and moaning the pain was so terrible. I never moan when I'm in pain. I might make a noise, but moaning is not a common occurrence with me. But, I think it went well overall! When I was in recovery, my husband Joe, gave me a birthday present. It is a gold chain necklace with a heart shaped black onyx that actually changes color in the light. Even more so in sunlight! It's really very pretty and neat! The gold is local black hills gold, so that makes even more special than it is already for me. :-) I was so surprised, as were the nurses! I'm not a big jewelry fan, but I love it! I had been told that I would have to stay the night in the hospital, but my doctor said I didn't have to unless I wanted to. I said no since being at home is more comfortable. I would stay in the hospital if I had to, but I didn't have to. The pain has been horrible. When the pain killers begin to wear off, I am reminded very quickly of the amount of pain I am in! I am also using ice as well to help. I am trying to get as much rest as I can to help with the bleeding as well. I was only able to sleep for a couple of hours because of the pain. Anyway, so I am at home and recovering. My doctor said it usually will take about a day or two for the bad pain to go away and after that, I would still be in pain, but more of uncomfortable pain. Everyone is different, so know one really knows exactly how long for anything <laugh out loud>. I had put the surgery off for so very long because I have been scared of the pain and surgery isn't fun at all! But, the problems my nose was causing have been progressively worse of the years, so I decided to see if I can get it fixed to where the problems are all gone or at least eased up! Many might think that having the surgery on my birthday is a weird idea, but I have my reasons :-). Firstly, my husband already had leave scheduled for a couple of weeks starting the day before my surgery. Secondly, if this surgery fixes, or even eases, the problems I have been dealing with for so many years, then it will be such a fantastic birthday gift I think! So far, the hardest parts of this recovery are the pain (obviously), I can't blow my nose and it has to remain covered with gauze until the bleeding stops, I have to sleep sitting up at around a 30 to 40 degree angle, and I have to try to sit still and rest. I am usually the kind of person that finds something to do LOL. I would have let my husband take care of much of the stuff yesterday, but I am stubborn, ha ha. The positives of the recovery are that my husband is going to be home to help me out, I'm at home and not at the hospital, recovery isn't expected to be too long, and hopefully it will be worth it! I hope everyone has a wonderful day! Love, Becky in SD --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now.
