Guest guest
I have had very fortunate luck with my doctors. My pain management docs have always treated me with respect and listened to what I was saying. It is necessary that we treat them the same way. It is always hard going through all the tests, etc. to get a diagnoses. I was treated with respect and caring at all times. Some of it has not been luck. I interview my doctors, counselors, etc. because I am an employer. If I have questions that remain unanswered when my first appointment is through, I expect to be told when it will be answered or can it be. My pain med doctor has always asked me how the pain meds are doing and then adjusts accordingly. I also take very good care of my meds that are regulated so I don't cause concerns by my doctor about why they disappear other than normal use. I hope this all improves for everyone. No one should be treated disrectfully, even addicts. They are patients and should be treated respectfully. Have a pain free day!!! Yes, we often get treated poorly, but it becomes *our* problem when we allow it to continue and don't take control of our own bodies and health and decisions. We wouldn't dream of telling our friends to stay in an abusive marital relationship, but we let total stranger doctors treat us worse than that and we just sit back and take it! What's up with that??? I've had some real doozies of doctors who said some really stupid things, and I've flat walked out on a couple of appointments with the worst of them. Like you, Sojourner, I've worked hard to put together a team that treats me with the respect that we all deserve. It was a major effort, but it made all the difference in my health and happiness. I think the hardest part is when you're at your lowest and the pain is the worst, it is so incredibly tough to get up the energy and spunk to search out yet another doctor and fight through one more appointment when you're sure you will only be disappointed once again. But we just have to do it to fight for our rights! We get so beaten down sometimes that it feels like there's no point in trying, but there is! I went through a dozen doctors, all of whom washed their hands of me and made no attempt to address my pain. There was a point where I couldn't imagine dragging myself to yet another doctor's appointment, I'd just about given up - but I forced myself to do it, and that was the appointment where I met my angel of a pain management doctor. Hang in there, everyone who is fighting for help! Keep fighting the good fight. Not all doctors are like the bad ones - there are good ones out there to, and you just have to keep working to find them!
