I might suggest the writings of Brennan Manning. I would start perhaps

with The Ragamuffin Gospel, Or Abba s Child.

Part of what Brennan has God saying to us, is

I expected more failure of you than you expected of yourself. Come and

cry out, Abba, Daddy!

We who never felt that love of a nurturing parent have a hard time

accepting that what I am is alright, and accepted.

We just want to crawl up in His lap, and whisper , Daddy? Is it ok for

me to be here?

It is.

Oh Lord,

teach me to seek you,

and reveal yourself to me

when I seek you.

[spacer]

For I cannot seek you unless

you first teach me,

nor find you unless

you first reveal yourself to me. [spacer]

Let me seek you in longing,

and long for you in seeking.

Let me find you in love,

and love you in finding. [spacer]
