Guest guest
I agree wholeheartedly ...I didn't have the distal..but..I think I'm at the low end..I am actually gonna make an appt today with a plastic surgeon..I was hoping that somehow this excess skin on my tummy would disappear one day..but..I'm 2 years out now,..and I spose it's time to face me fear and just get it done..LOL...I am thinking that I will lose another 10 pound or so form that?..how much did you lose from yours?...if I lose 10 from it..I'll be at 104... as far as the 18 month thing..I haven't experienced any weight gain at all..I know several others who haven't either...people who have had the proximal too..so...I would conclude..that as long as we DO stay on track...the not drinking with meals is a BIG thing with me..I never ever do it...I was a HUGE milk drinker pre surgery..I never touch it now..and, although I can't say I stay TOTALLY away from sugar..I never eat " goodies " ...but, there are things I do eat that have small amounts of sugar in them. I watch the grams and never like to go above 6 or 8 per serving...my eating habits..by some would probably be considered " grazing " in that I try to do about 5 small meals a day..but, my pouch doesn't allow me to eat much at a time..and so thats the only way I can seem to get the nutrition in that I need..and it has seemed to work for me...and..what I count as a " meal " a couple a day.. just entails a can of V-8..lol..so..IS that a meal..or is it a " snack " ..I must say that I don't limit myself..somedays, I can eat 6 of those small meals..somedays I only eat 3 ...depends on how busy I am..I really don't THINK about food anymore...except to make sure that when I DO eat..I'm " feeding " my body, and not my emotions...I still make sure I eat my protein..if nothing else...and try really hard to get in enough fiber to keep my system going..that can be a challenge! I've resorted lately to taking a supplement for that... lets keep up the good fight! De wt gain The stabilized weight depends on the type of surgery you had. Since I had a distal, I stabilized at the low end of my wt range. My low wt was 104 (I was hoping to break 100) and I stabilized at 112 or so. But then, I still follow the plan my doctor uses, no milk, no sugar, no grazing, no drinking with meals, lots of protein, water & vites. I keep EXPECTING to gain back another 20 lbs as most of my contemporaries (1993, 1994, 1995) did. But the other thing is that they all got casual about the " rules " and take about only half their protein! The few I know who are stable at the bottom also still follow the above. I know the " rules " are different for each of us, and not all surgeries will result in 100% wt loss. Sticking with good eating & good nutrition will help everyone stay put and at a reasonable size. I don't DIET, but there always WERE some foods I didn't eat. I certainly don't feel as restricted as I did when I dieted every day, all day (except binge days)! So, for you guys who are still floating around and wondering where you'll stop and when, all I can say is to keep doing what you see other successful people doing. Avoiding sugars, no grazing, not drinking with meals, making sure your intake does include the full range of nutritional needs. In short, what they used to call " sensible eating " when it never worked for us before. The difference is that with the tool we've been given, we now at least stand a fighting CHANCE at normalcy, huh? *** PLEASE USE NEW EMAIL ADDY BELOW*** Thanks! vitalady@... www.vitalady.com

Guest guest
What exactly is it about drinking with meals that is the big no no? I don't miss drinking with a meal, but my doctor never told me WHY we weren't suppose to do it. I have heard different explanations and wondered what you guys were told. So how exactly do you get all your protein in De? Do you take a protein supplement like ? If so which one? Thanks for your interesting post... Guest guest
H Jan.. Drinking with your meal can do a couple of undesirable things...drinking before hand fills you up, so that you don't eat ..can even stretch you out a little from what I've been told.. the reason for not drinking anything after ( I wait 30 min min) is that water tends to wash the food out of the pouch so that youre hungry sooner. I don't take a protein supplement..I never have..just couldn't stomach them...I pay close attention to the protein count on the stuff I DO eat..and usually I'm able to get in about 50 gms a day..some day's its a challenge...LOL.I just had my 2 year blood work done, and my protein counts were great..so..<shrug> it must be working?!? .maybe has one I haven't tried that would work for me <g> ?... Guest guest
Sue, I lost all my weight, right down to 104 lbs.. I thought it was oh-so-cool. My goal had been 125. NO such thing as too thin for me! As it happened, I went into protein deficiency and gained 6 lbs. in 6 hrs. Whoa! During the treatment for the deficiency, I gained a bit more, up to 118. After I got done flopping around, I parked at 112 and stayed here. Good enough, I think! ** please reply to me at: vitalady@... ** Thanks! www.vitalady.com
