I have been following this group for the past year and have read

everything I can find about resurfacing. As a 45 year old very active

person in the middle of a military career, I was very unhappy about any

kind of impending hip replacement surgery. Resurfacing was a very

promising option for me in a few years when my hip finally gives out.

I had a very discouraging appointment with my Orthopod today. In the

last six months I have developed very noticible AVN that was never

visible on previous x-rays. There are two large dark lines passing

almost completely through the head of the femur from the flattened

bearing surface towards the bottom. The depth of the AVN has ruled out

resurfacing and it appears that THR is the only real option for me.

Needless to say I'm crushed. I've really relied on the positive outlook

of members of this group who have had great experiences with the

technique and still have 'virgin' bone stock for some day in the

future. I guess it's time to chuck my binder full of research and start

building a new one on the latest and greatest THR research.

Good luck to you all

Cal,

I'm sure sorry to hear your news. There are a lot of outstanding THR's out

there, so I'm sure you'll do well-certainly better than walking on AVN hips!

Best to you,
