Good for you! Now I feel like I can finally come out of the closet.

I've had so much trouble trying to lose more weight and control some of

my bad habits -- struggling with the fact that I have no aversion to or

difficulty with any food (except coffee!), and can eat a fair quantity

at one time.

So after trying everything -- eating disorder therapist, Geneen Roth,

007Secrets, joining a gym, getting a bike -- I finally joined Weight

Watchers last month. And I have started losing weight again, slowly. I

also started doing strength training with dumbbells and got the book

" Strong Women Stay Slim " that someone recommended here (or on some

list). It's incredibly easy, fun in a weird way, and the difference

becomes noticeable fairly quickly.

As Alice said, the program is very easy and actually fun -- you can

literally eat whatever you want, whenever you want -- but you have to

account for everything you consume. The messages in the meetings are

essentially the same as the ones in Geneen Roth and 7 Secrets: eat only

when you are hungry, the food tastes better; don't deprive yourself, eat

what you really want, when you really want to. Let appetite be your

guide, some days you want more and some less. There are nutrition

suggestions, and lots of information, but no real rules. You could

actually do Atkins or the Zone on this program. Many people in the

group are emphasizing protein intake and decreasing carbs and sugar

because of information they've picked up from different sources. The

bottom line is to do what works for you individually, but paying

attention to everything you eat and how you feel.

I cannot tell you how weird it was to go back to Weight Watchers. I too

thought long and hard about it. But I realized that I needed a real

support group after surgery and never had one, because my surgeon is at

the other end of the state, and my HMO isn't set up for this.

I would not necessarily recommend Weight Watchers to anyone here -- but

I really think it's essential to have a real support group during the

weight loss and maintenance process. The point of the surgery is to

lose weight -- so whatever helps us use the surgery as the tool it was

designed to be, that's a good choice.
