Guest guest
Sally: I had Dr. Thayer and was not weighed between my initial evaluation in February and surgery in May of 2000. In the interim, I gained about 12 to 15 pounds - I was so stressed out I couldn't seem to get my eating under control at all. Unfortunately, Dr. T's office uses my evaluation weight when calculating loss, so I did mess myself up somewhat by gaining weight. But, I know I gained weight (so did the scale at my primary doc's office) so I know I have lost 12 more than I get credit for from Dr. T. It was my fault, so what can I say? Guest guest
I don’t remember if I got weighed at the pre-op testing, but I was in the same boat as you and Dr. Thayer went by the starting weight at my initial consultation. It wasn’t until my 6 month check-up that I finally told them that my starting weight was actually 6 pounds higher than they thought. The adjusted it on all my charts and now everything is accurate. Don’t worry about it. Have them adjust it at your first post-op visit or something. - AA Sally MacDuff wrote: Hi everyone, For those NWH patients of Dr. Thayer and Reines, can you tell me if you are weighed during the Pretesting?I saw Dr. Thayer back in the beginning of August. Iweighed myself this morning, and I have gained about6-8 lbs. since then. My surgery is l/2/01. Will I be judgedby the August weight or a current weight. There is noway with Prednisone and anti-depressants that I am going to lose before the surgery. It is going to hurt the first postopweigh-in, which will also be hurt by all the IV fluid andsteroids which they have to give me because my adrenalglands do not work normally. I am afraid I am going toweigh so much on my first postop visit. Just interestedin whether we get weighed in at the pretesting. It wouldbe a different scale and probably would not coincide withDr. Thayer's anyway. Just worrying about everything atthis point. Thanks for listening. Sally Hi Sally-- I had Dr. Reines for my Gastric Bypass almost 10 months ago. I gained weight (8 lbs.) between my initial consult and the time of surgery as well. It happens to patients, and the doctors check for this. I too, like Alice A., had my records ajusted after my surgery to reflect the correct pre-op weight. Although no one knew ahead of time, my surgery did take longer than usual. Five hours to be exact. Both Dr. R. and Dr. T. are excellent surgeons and I don't foresee either of them rushing through surgery. So, have no fear about that Sally! And, I had twice the normal amount of fluids pumped into me during surgery, therefore, I came out of surgery much heavier. It all goes away though, so do not despair! The Dr.'s and their staff expect questions from patients, that's why we call them the experts. So, good luck at your visit, ask away at your questions, and don't forget to mingle in the waiting room. There tends to be lots of knowledge there...at your disposal! --a
Guest guest
Lois, There isn't much that I can say being in the same boat, except it makes me feel a little better that I am not the only one who has done this. I have an appointment with Dr. Thayer tomorrow, and for the heck of it, I am going to ask if I can be re-weighed. If he says no, then I can't do anything about it. Will have to go with the flow. Thanks for writing back. That was nice. Sally Re: gained weight > Sally: > > I had Dr. Thayer and was not weighed between my initial evaluation in > February and surgery in May of 2000. Guest guest
Sally, Dr. Thayer ran into unfamiliar territory when my stomach turned out to be a very odd square shape. He had to be really careful and the surgery ended up taking close to 3 hours. I trust him to always do his best and have confidence that he can handle the unexpected. Don't worry... he's a doctor. He's there to work, not rush. - AA rheaumepaula@... wrote: > > > > Hi everyone, > > For those NWH patients of Dr. Thayer and Reines, > > can you tell me if you are weighed during the Pretesting? > > I saw Dr. Thayer back in the beginning of August. Guest guest
I know... it figures I would have a square stomach! I also have extra ribs and the rarest blood type in the world. I can't remember what that is, but Dr. Thayer said he did a double-take when he saw it. He also said that and I need to get merried and have kids because of some blood-type issue. I almost died when he said that TO JASON! LOL. Dawn wrote: > > Alice, > > I must ask...did you once eat a sandwich without biting it, and just ate it > " as is " ?!?!? Kidding! Enquiring minds want to know! hey...maybe you swallowed a Big Mac box??? Guest guest
Sally, I was not weighed at the pre-op testing. I was however weighed before I left the hospital. Yesterday I got weighed when I had my staples out and I was 2 lbs up from my pre-op weight, but 14 lbs down from the hospital weight. She asked me for the hospital weight and put that in my chart. I have no idea what I weighed going into surgery, I think they should weigh you the day of surgery as then you have a accurate picture. It would not surprise me if I had gained 7-10 lbs between my 10/11 consult and 11/27 surgery.... Joni

Guest guest
Joni, Either way congrats on the loss! Remember too, that we all gain weight due to the fluids they pump us up with at the time of surgery. WOO HOO! Dawn Re: gained weight Sally, I was not weighed at the pre-op testing. Guest guest
Sally I weighed in at 236 lbs at my consultation, my home scale said 242. I was never weighed again by Dr. T before surgery .. so I'll never know what my exact starting weight was but it was enough lol. I only had 3 weeks from the time of my consultation to surgery and while I ate alot of 'last' meals I didn't do too badly I don't think.
