I also have to support my ankles and elbows; they become very red and sore when I sleep on my back in a bed without pillows underneath them. My lower back is also very sore after a few hours; a recliner and a heating pad on low help out a lot. Hi everyone, ( in Washington State) I have not posted in along time either, many surgeries and difficulty at the computer desk. I am one of those too, who was reading and trying to catch up, and felt like I might be able to help the ones asking about being able to sleep comfortably at night, and not have monthly payments for years to come. I also wanted a mattress topper, or anything at all to keep from having pillows between and under everything, then waking up with all the bulging disc hurting more for being out of alignment. I knew insurance companies pay for some and with some ICD-9 codes [diagnose] that allow it. It took awhile to find those answers but, when I did, it paid off like the lottery! I was able to get a hospital bed, electric, head and foot both raises and lowers to get the right sleeping position and what they call a APP Mattress. It has a electric pump, and air flows through tunnel lines all from top to bottom as weight is placed and displaced while you toss or turn or sit upright. I love it, I can watch TV, sit up and eat, lay down, prop to read, and no pillows needed. I did not and will not have to pay at all, after 13 months of rental (mattress's are always new) bed's are reused if not purchased. So, if condition (Dx.) is permanent, after cheating 13 months of rental money, the Insurance company purchases it for you. They came last week (the Medical Supply Company) and replaced the bed pump, and through in another new mattress, for no cost, so I have a extra one now. I have several conditions, so only certain ones qualify for the Insurance to pay for these air mattress's, but lucky for my wallet, (unlucky for my body) in another 5 months it will be purchased for me. It is on wheels too, so easy to move to another location. Patient's should check their policies, I am amazed at what some have purchased for them from Jacuzzis to making many things more comfortable for patients, you'd never think of! But, yet they won't pay for a walker for a senior citizen if they have a wheelchair, and they do not pay for bedside commode? Never figure it out? But, this mattress saved me, I can sleep at night for the first time in years, and never hurt a joint, or cut off circulation to a limb. Long-time member (different email address) sorry for not posting, but as others, it is hard to sit at a desk. Anyone wanting information on the mattress, it's okay to email me. Take care all, Janet (SC)
Guest guest
Moderator's note: Check your insurance policies everyone. Janet is correct, with the correct diagnosis, to fit the ICD 9 codes you may have many wonderful items. Hi Janet (SC) Oooh, I'm interested! That does sound so much easier than the three-pillow shuffle I do every night. Actually, I don't think anything or any bed will change needing the pillow between my knees: the knees hurt when they're touching and I have to sleep on my side. But the concept of being able to have upper body and lower body supported comfortably might allow me to lay on my backside without too much pain. I've wondered about some of the durable medical goods decisions myself and don't think I'll ever understand it. Good info! >Janet (SC) wrote: > I knew insurance companies pay for some and with some ICD-9 codes > [diagnose] that allow it.
