Guest guest
, I don't know why but I was one of those that if I ate 600 calories a day , I lost weight. I was consuming about 6,000 or more per day easy. I truly agree with everything you said, except that I was not like you in that I did not consume much. I ate all the time, and I mean all the time and all the wrong stuff. I think I will always beat myself up a little bit about not being able to do it the " right " way, but that is my own hang up and I NEVER apologize to anyone for doing what I did. I just had a lady the other day, say her cousin lost 100 lbs, but did it the .... and she hesitated and I said " she did it with diet and exercise? " and she said " ya " and then there was silence. I said " how nice for her, I hope she can keep it off, I sure never could " I mean what else can we say? I would do this surgery over tomorrow if I had to and I met a woman who said she would do it once a year to maintain the quality of life she has now. Was that you who said it , ? Anyway , I love that comment. I agree... thanks for your post, you are SO on my side, and I do appreciate your support.... Jan C> 3-11-98 RNY wait! stop! >Jan, don't beat yourself up! Holy moly! We coudn't eat this way before surgery! REALLY! How would you ever feel satisfied on half a burger & 3 fries? That's not enough FOOD! And, even though I know you are proximal, that little bit of bypass IS cutting out some of your calories, fats & protein. That's the main loss when the food doesn't pass through the duodenum. And even proximals get some loss there. So, you are still not getting 100% of the calories you eat, unless they are milk or sugar calories. > >For my distal, I always figure I get 150% of sugar (milk) and 25% of anything good. Seems to have worked, in retrospect. > >But don't EVEN think we could've lived the post-op life, pre-op. Remember, morbid obesity is NOT a character flaw. It is a genuine physical illness that manifest itself dozens of ways. We don't burn calories, we store 'em, so even if we ate only 600 cal/day, we'd be gaining! And we don't feel full " in time " , since we have no stopper. EVERY meal was Tgvg dinner for us, followed by regret, misery and wondering how we could be so stupid. But it's not a character flaw. REALLY. > >I mean, read the posts here. How many STUPID people do you see here? Not so many, right? I mean, there are some pretty with it folks talking with us here. These are not flawed or ignorant doofusses. These are intelligent, sometimes well-paid, and certainly witty folks we got here. AND many are deeply caring individuals, too. Proof there is no character flaw in my book. > >While I do agree that some DO have " food issues " , I tend to think that they may often times be a RESULT of our disease, rather than the cause of. I know they were pulling food off my plate long before I was old enough to be making food choices, good or bad. and that has ramifications. And so on. We could all tell stories. > >But please, do not beat your self so viciously. You do NOT deserve that kind of treatment! NONE of is perfect, about food or any other area, but we are not as nasty and gross as the general public has taught us to believe we are. And you, dear, are WAY less nasty than most! > > >** No matter what my mail says in the " from " , >please reply to me at: vitalady@... ** > >Thanks! > > >Please visit our web site at: >www.vitalady.com > > > > > >[Attachments have been removed from this message] > >>
