Guest guest
. There is a new drug that's not " addicting " for chronic constipation one is Amitiza (lubiprostone) and the second one is Zelnorm. I am not sure if you have tried Miralax. this is OTC and probably the best that I have tried. you mix in a capful every day with a beverage and bam. this drug works by allowing more liquid into the colon and therefore doesn't cause harm. Not sure how many people on the list are of child bearing age, but laxatives and those type drugs are DANGEROUS for pregnant women, most are category X. the reason being is they stimulate contractions. Before switching or changing your routine speak with your docs. when I first started on narcotics the problems with constipation weren't really explained, probably cause I am a nurse and I should have known better. Fourteen days without going to the bathroom - that will never happen again. painful wasn't even the right word. Guest guest
I find Amitiza works great when Miralax alone is not enough - like right after the surgery after all the meds in my system it was a good wee before I had relief. I was getting worried. The nice thing about both of thosemeds is they don't give me cramps. Amitiza means " happy tummy " in Italian. I'm friends with the rep for the drug. Anne, Well, I spent six hours in the ER for an ileus and I became friends with some of these medications and I now know why " older " people talk about their bowels so much. My CT scan showed I was not " passing things along " so to seek and it was coming up rather than out. My gastritis is better, my tummy is happier, and I am " resting my bowels " program. The cramps with gastritis and severe constipation compare with childbirth and I hope I never have this again. They gave me Levsin for that and I was glad I had a good ER doctor, that makes the difference. Bennie
