Guest guest
Hello every one I have been having a problem. My teeth are rotting out. I mean I have had to have several teeth pulled over the last 6 months. Does any one know of a connection between Morphine, Fentanyl and bad teeth or a problem connecting the two. I wish every one a pain free day. Bill/MI
Guest guest
There definitely IS a connection. Doctors almost never explain this to their patients. All opiates cause a reduction in saliva (dry mouth) and that concentrates the acid produced by bacteria in your mouth and it concentrates the bacteria too because there is insufficient saliva to wash them away. There are some aids to prevent this. You should talk to you doctor and try to keep your mouth as moist as possible. Brushing several times a day will help too. - in Alabama Bill wrote: > > > -snip- > Does any one know of a connection between Morphine, Fentanyl and > bad teeth or a problem connecting the two. > > Bill/MI > > >
Guest guest
Sounds like actiq. Most patients after a year don't have a tooth left in their mouth. Deb RN
Guest guest
That's funny but it make a lot of sense. If you take a very powerful opiate (fentanyl) then add all that bacteria food in the form of sugar in the lollipops you have a great recipe for destroying your teeth. The bad part of this is that doctors either don't know or don't care to explain this to their patients. It is no small matter either. Bad teeth can cause all kinds of problems not the least of which is endocarditis which can kill you. Just another example of the poor treatment some pain patients get. - Alabama Debra wrote: > Sounds like actiq. Most patients after a year don't have a tooth left > in their mouth. Guest guest
I have not spoken to one actiq user that still has teeth left. The company insert does warn of this so their butt is covered. The drug was intended for cancer patients,. When you are dying teeth aren't of the highest priority. However, the drug has now been prescribed for everything . Nothing in this world is free.
