Guest guest
My personal opinion, backed up by something I read, can't remember where. We weren't made to sit in chairs for long periods of time far as I can tell the research says that laying back takes the weight off the discs and is better for your back. Another opinion I have is that the body really wasn't made to lay on a hard flat surface so anything that takes the strain off the back and neck after a day of being upright seems the best way to rest. We lay babies down on hard surfaces, many cultures do but they are more comfortable in a sling where the body is in a curve and most of us go into a sort of fetal position if we lay on our side. Personally I wish I had a bed that I could position and that had the ability to conform and support my curves. Can't sleep on my back or my sciatic nerve gets compressed and my lower back won't bend. Can't lay on my stomach, the lower back and my neck won't allow it, pain is something I try not to self induce. Sleeping on the couch is more comfortable than my bed. A recliner that fit my size and did not hold my head in a forward position might be a good thing for part of the night. It would get me off my sides for awhile. We're not made to sleep that way but I understand the desperation that leads to those sorts of choices, having been driven to several of them myself.
