> Hello,

> I am new here but not new to chronic or intractable pain. I had a 3 level/360

fusion from L2 to L5 on Nov.of 07 that failed miserably. I've had 4

Laminectomies after that to fix what the fusion did to me. The cadaver bone that

was put on my fusion was not used correctly by my surgeon, so its started to

chip away and I even have one level that has not fuse at all...... So I live

with pain 24/7.

Hi Millie,

Sounds like how I feel but I have a husband who helps me greatly. Do you have a

room you can have someone to live in to help you in exchange of room and board ?

This is all I can think of. Isn't it horrible living the life you helped people

with all your life ?

But as you say, What can you do ?

I worked in the medical field taking care of others and now I have to depend on

my husband to take care me. I used to be such a strong person, with a high pain

threshold.

Maybe you could call 211, local resources and see if there are options for you.

I think having someone living with you would be

so great. I do dog rescue grants online and I still help with special education

advocacy, I can always type. ha

Well, welcome and everyone here is so nice and I am glad you are here. I was

told my back was not fused and then one doctor said it

was and then they all said, they cannot really say unless they open you up and

look, so I just do not worry.

I had a three level also and they told me I have to be careful. I fractured

thoracic vertebra 9 from falling on my back. I have two rods on the sides, and

the Instrumentation. They used my hip bone to fuse.

I hope you find a solution, it seems a room mate might be good or a support

group with your same problems might present some

Opportunities for you. Welcome and glad you are here.

They shut down our 211emergency  line here in Arkansas for lack of funds. So

sad! But then they started a website with all the same info, but its not like

talking to a live caring person who is willing to help.

I didnt realize all the surgery you had on your back yet you still have had the

experience of dr's treating you as a drug addict. This makes me think that the

care people receive is directly related to the area of the country they live

in,  are you seeing civilian or military docs?  I have heard that military docs

are much looser with their prescribing of narcotics.  Have you noticed

a difference between the military and civilian docs?

Bennie,

Thanks for the welcome and the support.

Before all of this happened I worked as a social worker for the State of Florida

helping people with HIV and AIDS, so I pretty much know what's available out

there, and here in south florida is close to nothing! I apply for low income

rental but the list is two years long.

I am doing OK, and I have good neighbors that help me out, so I just take it day

by day. Again, thanks for the warm welcome!

Here in Miami the number is 311. And that number is use for any non-emergency

county information. I don't know if it is the same everywhere, but here in South

Fla. that is what is use for.

Caitlin,

Sorry to hear that, I was surprised that when I called this number, I was able

to get financial assistance through the Epilepsy Foundation for the flight to

her doctor in California and the lady on 211 suggested we try this agency. She

said that he organizations for disorders sometimes have financial funding

for those needing assistance. My neice has epilepsy and was seeing a doctor for

carotoid surgury and removal of tumors. So I believe it works.

Deb,

No the paranio is throughout the country and my Nurse Practitioner that the

American Academy of Pain Physicians is spreading the paranoia and many pain

management doctors have been sent to jail for " over prescribing " and the doctors

are aware of the DEA audits. I have found this in the Midwest, South,

Washington state is having a big problem because of their laws, so it is

universal.

The clinic I go to treats everyone like " drug addict " as they are multi

disciplinarian and are taking more and more doctors in their partnerships and

branch offices.

They are concerned about DEA audits.

My husband has been retired since 1995 so I see Civilian physicians and military

doctors are very competent. The narcotics have to be substantiated on the

formulary and they do more generics. No, military doctors have to be more

accountable and will NOT prescribe as patients have to be physically ready to

return to duty and Motrin is the strongest unless you can prove otherwise.
