Are they going to keep paying my premiums for 90 days until I decide? That doesn't sound good on their part. What if I chose not to do COBRA? This is just a query. I received my COBRA application papers 3 weeks after I resigned. They told me not to send any money in with that application. I would receive a bill retroactive to the day I resigned. But I guess they already took me off the regular insurance. Although she said it would be the regular insurance and I would always you my same card? I really am able to follow simple directions. Write back. Karyn
Guest guest
Karyn, I am not familiar with CIGNA polocies, but they are reputable. All COBRA is pretty much the same, a continuation of your insurance. You can not be denied COBRA if you held insurance prior to your departure of the company. All companies who offer insurance are required by law to offer COBRA to you within 30 days of your departure. You have upto 90 days to decide if you want to go on COBRA. COBRA is just your regular insurance, but you have to pay the full premiums to retain it. The company is required to keep you insured if you pay the premiums. As far as your hold ups in coverage, I still think you are being jerked around, and if you still have your card, call the company number on your card and ask for the group enrollment department. Demand to know why it is taking so long to update the files. This is totally ridiculous. They are lucky it is not me they are dealing with. I would not tolerate this kind of treatment for any employee! If your insurance administrator is not doing anything for you then take it into your own hands, like every other aspect of this disease, you could be waiting for months for someone to punch a button on the computer. You are not even my employee and I am miffed! *gritting teeth smile* Becky
Guest guest
Can I get info how to apply for Cobra. a, Like I wrote Karyn, your company should have sent you notification within 30 days of departure, if you had insurance with them before you left. If they didn't you need to call them and remind them that it is a federal law to provide you with the info for COBRA. I don't know how long ago you were employed ect.....
