Guest guest
Millie: Hello all. My name is Mickey. I was a member of this list many years ago when I was living in Dallas. The folks back then were a godsend in helping me understand the world of pain and that I needed to take control of my disease / situation and act as my own advocate to ensure I was getting the best possible treatment. Well, I am back. I am feeling insecure about my current treatment and I am here to listen and learn. Millie, your post mentioned that you take dilaudid with methadone and that is what I take as well. Although the methadone works, I have a difficult time finding a pharmacy and a pain management doc willing to take a patient on methadone. Further, it was nearly impossible to convince the doctor that I was NEVER addicted to heroine. I would like to move back to a traditional treatment but my PM is reluctant to make changes stating the metabolism of methadone. I had gastric bypass 16 months ago. And because of that I do not absorb anything well, including my meds. I find the dilaudid useless. I crush it and take it in liquid (drinking slowly). I think I just take it out of " hope " when the pain is really bad, because I do not believe it is helpful - either I do not metabolize it or another reason that I do not understand. What are your thoughts or guidance? Whatever change is made I believe for best results I need non tablet form medication. Thank you in advance for the group's advice and THANK YOU for being here for all of us in pain and in need of knowledge. >Millie wrote: >I use Dilaudid as my break through pain medication and I only take 4 Mg's when I do take it. Like the other poster mentioned, Dilaudid is a break through pain medication, it should be use in conjunction with another opioid; I use it with Methadone. Guest guest
Hi, I just saw your message. I am sorry that you can not find a Doctor to treat you with Methadone. A lot of Doctor's do not know how to prescribe Methadone, so that is why they don't want to touch it! They don't know how to titrate the medication, so then they don't prescribe it. Have you tried going to different pain management Doctor's? Maybe you can find one that has experience with Methadone. Well now to your other issue. Have you ever been on the Fentanyl patch? Since you had your gastric bypass and are having issues with absorption can you see if the Fentanyl patch will work for you? Is an idea. OK, I hope that you can find a good Doc that can take care of your pain issues the correct way. Take care, Millie >Mickey wrote: > > Millie, your post mentioned that you take dilaudid with methadone and that is what I take as well. Guest guest
Have you talked to your doctor about dilauded suppositories? And getting as much of your other medication in either a suppository form or dissolve under the tongue. When I get in severe pain, I vomit up everything including the anti-nausea and dilauded. So my emergency kit now includes both types of suppositories.
