Hello Joe

It sounds like you may have the cervical disc problem

again. The zinger likely was caused by a nerve being

impinged.

I awakened one morning with severe pain in left shoulder

and arm and also the tingling/numbness in fingers

on left hand. For a month, I had some nasty demon

nerve zingers in left arm until the nerve healed.

After some study, I decided to fore go the surgery and

still have some numbness and tingling in left hand and

occasionally in neck area. There numerous cases where

surgery helps for a while and problem returns.

I have had fibromyalgia for some about 15 years. I

try to minimize meds with therapeutic massage.

I recently developed some acute tendinitis as result

of reaction to Levaquin prescribed for walking

pneumonia. Now, I am really in trouble with pain

and hindered activity. I am a 69 year old professor

who is teaching 4 courses and having some real struggles.

Good luck with the numbness/tingling and fibro.

Joe,

You probably have an impingement, I think that some myofascial release physical

therapy would help as it did for me. Have you had your nerves tested recently?

Anti-inflammatory medications would cause the swelling to go down but I don't

know, check with your doctor. I just saw a doctor that does a neural scan and

going to her next week.

Hey, Joe S.

I agree with Don that it sounds like nerve impingement. I've had the same issue

for years now. It got very bad for a while and we discovered that the herniated

disc causing part of the nerve impingement had extruded and had completely

blocked that nerve. (Oddly enough, I am also left handed for the most part, and

the symptoms were in my left arm/hand.)

If you can't find any position in which it eases off, I suggest you see your

doc. I " toughed it out " for a few months, then was misdiagnosed by my

ex-rheumatologist for more months and by the time I had surgery there was

permanent damage.

As to nerve pain type meds, have you tried Savella? It's fairly new (and

therefore expensive) but my neurologist says it's " like concentrated Lyrica but

without the side effects " . I can't afford to try it since our insurance says I'm

fine on Neurontin, but you might be able to access it somehow.

Having said that: I was on neurontin when my extrusion happened and the pain was

so bad it didn't help at all. After a while there was a sensation of my elbow

exploding even though there was no swelling. Not good.

Hope you get some relief soon!
