Jami,

Welcome back and so glad that you are functioning better now on less pain meds.

That doesn't surprise me at all. If we take too high a dose, its going to make

us less able to function, not more able to function. Being able to function at

our highest rate with the minimal amount of pain medication is the balance many

are trying to find. Over medicating is as big of a problem as under-medicating.

There are many theories as to why reducing your pain med is not having an affect

on your pain. One reason could be, that Morphine never helped with your pain at

all. Some pain medication don't work at all for some people and work well for

others. Another reason could be that your type of pain does not react to pain

medication . This happens quite frequently as well.

I'm curious to why you think people wouldn't want to hear this? Everyone makes

their own personal decisions about taking pain medication.  What may work for

one person, isn't going to work for all. I know you're not trying to tell

everyone to not take pain medication because it is working for you. This is your

personal situation and I'm glad it worked out for you, as I'm sure is the case

with the group members here.

Sincerely,

Caitlin

I've been on this list for the last 4 years, haven't posted in a year though, so

I do keep up with what is going on with everyone.

About 8 months ago, I decided to slowly go off my pain meds that I've been on

for 8 years to see if 1) a reduced amount would have an effect one way or

another 2) a reduced/no opiates would have an effect on the way I live.

I does NOT matter what amount (MG) I take per day, the pain level is the same so

far.  I know this is what people pretty much don't want to hear, I sure didn't

want to at first, but it has made a difference for the better.
