Hi Lois,

I may " not " be the best person to answer this question. Yes, I was taking 40mg

of OxyContin twice a day and 20mg of OxyIR for breakthrough pain. It wasn't

enough. My doctor was going to put me on 100mg Fentanyl patch with NOTHING for

breakthru pain.

I decided to try getting off all opiates and essentially " re-setting " my pain

clock, as it were. I am doing this by taking a medication called Suboxone. It is

primarily used in opiate addicts, but there are " some " studies that suggest that

it can be used in treating chronic pain. I went from all those meds one day to

taking 4-8mg Suboxone. It is a sublingual tablet essentially melting under your

tongue.

The first week was pretty good.  I still had pain but it could be controlled

with 600mg of ibuprofen. However, over this past week, I've noticed, I'm

noticing my pain more and more. I have an appointment to see the doc in 2 weeks,

however, don't know if I can wait that long as all of this " new stuff " is

happening... (lumps, electric foot pain, swollen areas on my arm in relation to

these " lumps " .

Not just any doctor can prescribe Suboxone. You have to have a special DEA

license to prescribe it. From what I've heard, it's basically that they have to

take a special " class " and then they can prescribe it. Plus they have to do a

LOT of paperwork on each patient on how well the medication is working, side

effects, etc.

Speaking of side effects, I haven't found any that I can't handle. There is a

little swollen feet and hands, and you think opiates make you constipating....

well with Suboxone, you need a couple of sticks of dynamite. (just kidding, but

you get my point.)

Well that's about all I know. You can research it on the internet. I spelled it

correctly for you as I looked on the bottle.

FWIW,

Patty
