Most pain management doctors will not prescribe Oxycontin because of the abuse of other drug seekers and it is the medication that can be melted down and shot up as it has not additives. You have many other options to include medication therapy, physical therapy, heat, topical analgesics. I would ask him what he would give besides Oxycontin. Most doctors add a nerve medication like neurontin, lyrica, topomax or others, muscle relaxants and anti-depressants. There are other options and if you could read " Survival Guide for Intractable Pain Patients " by Forest Tenent which can be downloaded at paintopics.org. It has a page with a list of medications used and suggestions on how to talk to your Doctor and get your pain controlled. I have not found any other guide that does this and addresses so much more and he has been in the field for years. I hope you get better pain relief, please know I am not a doctor and do not know your diagnosis but I hope the best for you. There are timed medications and you can ask him about those also as that is what I take and my pain has been controlled for quite a while with ups and downs. Nothing is going to work 100 per cent and the decision has to be yours. Let us know how it goes. Bennie.
