Guest guest
I wake up with sciatic and periformis pain, and heat always works for that. Cold always makes it worse. Different methods work for different people. For me, it is much easier to use my electric chair cushion massager first. Then I can get up and heat up the heating pads if the pain is still so bad I can't put my weight on my leg.

But the indisputable fact of the matter is that if your condition was due to true sciatica - which is caused by inflammation at the root of the nerve in the spine, not by muscle spasms like piriformis syndrome - then heat would be doing further damage. Heat increases inflammation, and thus would make the nerve damage worse. My point is that we must know the source of the problem and not just let doctors get away with telling us our symptoms ( " Sciatica " is a symptom, not a diagnosis!) because without that information we can actually make things worse. " Different things DO work for different people, " as you said, but only because we actually have different problems!
