Guest guest
Kim, Yes, great book. It's been on libertarian reading lists since it was new. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0060391979/qid%3D959117769/102- 3109860-2254466 There is another about junk science in the court room. I think it's Gallileo's Revenge. I'll check on it. If there is one theme I get from the writings of Szasz it is his advocacy of the separation of medicine and state. We are seeing the horrors of the history of religious persecution in the government's alignment with medicine today. Szasz also takes no prisoners when he takes on institutional psychiatrists, calling them " jailers and poisoners masquerading as doctors. " Tommy > > > Hi. Guest guest
Hi Kim Imo a more reasonable account of the corruption of clinical Psychology is " House of Cards: Psychotherapy based on Myth " by Robyn Dawes, himself a certified clinical psychologist and a member of the Board of the American Psychological Association , who is not a radical libertarian like Szasz and does not consider mental illness a myth, but does believe treatment should be science-based. His position is that there *is* a legitimate, science-based clinical psychology but psychologists routinely ignore it, instead using their certification as a cover to tout their own nostrums. He also says that he believes psychiatry is much the same but he is much better able to state the case in psychology. His accounts include the baselessness of 12-step treatment. Some clinical psychologists have become so disenchanted with the failure of the APA to restrict psychologists to scientifically supported approaches that they have split to form the American Psychological Society (APS). I wish them well, not least because they have the goosd sense not to have the same initials as the American Psychiatric Association! P. > > > Hi.
