Guest guest
Cheryl, I have been on Fentanyl patches for well over a year but finally decided they are doing nothing for my pain so am going off them slowly. I think the only thing you have to watch with the patches is not following the instructions you are given and that come with them in every box. It's been my understanding that people who have had problems do not do this. They use more than 1 patch without their doctor's knowledge or drink alcohol which is a big no or combine with drugs their doctor is unaware of. I have had no problem because I don't do any of those. You will have to decide for yourself if the patches help your pain but I think if they do, you have nothing to worry about or be anxious about. You deserve to have your pain treated so you can live your life. For me, Percocet is the only thing that helps lower my pain. I can't explain why that is but I know my body is different and that's just how it is. Best of luck and I really hope you get some relief. Guest guest
Hi there, I don't post very often, I mostly read and relate with everyone. I just wanted to let you know that, I had been on the Duragesic patch off and on for over six years, from 2001 to 2007. I have been on every strength and when I was in hospice, and went in on the 100 mcg patch one every 72 hours. When admitted to hospice, the doctor put me on three of the 100 mcg, they did not gradually add patches or increase little by little they just added two extra 100 mcg patch. Any way, during the time that I was on them, I was overdosed four times and two of those times I spent 12 + hours on the ventilator. They determined that the patches had dumped extra medicine in my system. I did like the freedom that the patch gave me, you know, not having to take pills, and know that the medicine is continuous in your system. But, at the same time they can be dangerous. I actually had an ER doc, accuse me of overdosing myself, by sucking the stuff out of the reservoir. Well, my mother set him straight, by pulling my patch off of my arm and showing him that it was the paper thin one with out the little chamber. I send this message to you just so that you be on the look out and to use with caution. And hopefully to prevent what happened to me and some other people, from happening to you. The concern also is to prevent a fatality as well, I am involved in an injury and wrongful death suit as well. Because I know two other people that have died from the faultiness of the patch. I don't want to scare you just be cautious and careful. God bless you and take care. Your sister in pain, Sharon >Cheryl Tiller wrote: >I've had a herniated disc between L4-L5 since 1997. I tried the Duragesic patches in 2003 and had a problem at night with shallow breathing but he really pushed for me to try it again.
Guest guest
Cheryl T, I guess that I should say that I was also on the patches for a back injury and after, I had back surgery. I was off of them for about six months, when my body went haywire. My nervous system literally shorted out one day. I laid down one beautiful May day, about 2 weeks after my 38th Birthday, and woke up an hour and a half later, and, when I got up to go to the bathroom, I landed face first in the floor. I looked down and my legs were three times the normal size and cherry red. And oh my god, absolutely on fire. When they finally figured out what was wrong and diagnosed me, some two months later, and a few idiot doctors as well. I was diagnosed with a very rare form of MS, and told that I would not see forty. I should go home and get my life in order, and everything taken care of. I was admitted to hospice about two months later, due to the insurance that I had at the time. Well, I am pleased to announce that I am alive and well, learned how to walk all over again. And the floor sure is a lot farther away, then it was the first time that I learned to walk. And I don't bounce, at all. I am also fixing to be 42 in two weeks. Some how, I went into remission, by the grace of God. I walk, work, and play with my grandchildren. And am ever so grateful. God bless you, Sharon >Cheryl T wrote: >The doctor tried Morphine Sulfate 10.5 but it cause shallow breathing. All the information on it warms you about respiratory problems so I'm a little scared.
