My Dr. recently stopped perscribing Flexarill (supposedly)due to extreme weight gain. Flexarill is one of the only muscle relaxers I can take that dosen't make me seriously ill. Has anyone else heard about this side effect?

My doctor recently stopped prescribing Flexeril (supposedly)due to extreme weight gain. Flexeril is one of the only muscle relaxers I can take that doesn't make me seriously ill. Has anyone else heard about this side effect? Hi Robbie It is mentioned in side effects on RxList. http://www.rxlist.com/flexeril-drug.htm Flexeril is normally used as a short term medication. At one point my pain management physician prescribed Flexeril for me, to see if it would help with the muscle spasms. It helped some, but no more than some of the cheaper substitutes. (there are many). The Flexeril made me feel a bit indifferent and I became slack about doing my physiotherapy exercises each morning, so I stopped taking it after a couple of weeks. Keeping as physically fit as possible, is essential when we have chronic conditions. The physical problems that we have wreak havoc on our bodies and our emotional states. We can fight back by eating well, maintaining muscle tone, not gaining more weight, getting some kind of cardio vascular exercise, and doing whatever it takes to maintain a positive outlook. A well balanced diet is essential. Exercise can be done whether you are a completely mobile person, use a wheelchair to get around, or spend your days propped up in bed. It's just a matter of learning how to do them and then following through. It's very likely that your doctor was looking at your overall health when he/she chose to stop prescribing Flexeril. If you are having extreme weight gain, it sounds like it's time for you and your doctor to come up with a new game plan that you will be able to work with. It's sure worth the extra effort. Please give it a good shot. Lyndi
