But then, I try my best to be a good, complian patient.... sometimes Mine does give out narcotics & does pain shots if needed. He is also a spinal surgeon. Mostly I see the nurse practioner there who, sadly, also has fibromyalgia so she truly understands and is sympathetic. Sympathetic and has great pity for clients like me who are disabled with pain. She often tells me she doesn't know how I function as well as I do (ha!) This clinic doesn't only prescribe, prescribe, prescribe. There's a psychologist on staff to help w/ life adjustment issues that fibro/pain throw at us. They also have biofeedback and meditation sessions in the office. Plus if you read about a new therapy, drug, hope, whatever on the net or hear of one, they are willing to discuss it with you and if it's not dangerous, help you get it. They're willing to try anything and everything available. Best of all, this doctor was one of a group that sued HMO's in New York State because of the ins. co's policies of continually saying " no " to durn near anything. Unfortunately, the HMOs won the lawsuit, but the doctors are trying again. My doctor also regularly lobbies various gov't entities to lighten up on how pain patients are treated. I didn't find this out until after I was a patient at the clinic for a while. I hope you have as much luck w/ your pain doc as I've had with mine. Guest guest
Your doc sounds just like mine. I can't say enough about Doctor H. He's actually a certified Neurologist and a certified pain management doc. He has literally saved my life. His wife and daughter both have Fibro and other painful health problems so he understands chronic pain. He's willing to discuss anything with me and spends as long as I need talking with me etc. His visits usually last between forty five minutes and an hour. There is a psychologist on staff also. Doctor H is a believer in narcotic pain therapy and other methods. He does nerve blocks, epis and trigger point injections. I am blessed to have him as my doc. I had to wait almost six months before I got my first appointment but it was oh so worth it. Also, it is not uncommon for more than one member to be feeling bad at the same time when it comes to flares and b/c of that potentially take something another member says the wrong way. Guest guest
Hi, my name is Vicky, and I live in FL. I am new to this group, heard it mentioned, and went looking for it. I had back surgery in 2000, been in pain since. This past November, I went to a neurosurgeon, who said there was nothing that could be done for me, and I'd have to learn to live with it. In March, I had my husband drop me from his insurance, thinking Medicare would start in May. Turns out Medicare isn't effective until November 1st. The question I have for you it this. What can I do to get rid of the pain, until November? Excedrin Back and Body isn't working for me anymore. Thanks in advance Vicky
Guest guest
Hi Rhonda, I am so sorry the surgeon did that to you! I think all of us here have had similar experiences. I know I have. I am 30 years old and have had chronic pain since I was 16 years old. When you are young, it can be difficult for people to take you seriously. At least that's what I noticed. When I say young, I don't mean just teenagers, 20, and 30 somethings. :-) Anyway, you are going through a lot right now and I think we all feel your frustration, depression, and pain. I hope and pray things will ease up for you! Love, Becky in SD --- Rhonda wrote: I am a 28 year old woman I have been struggling with chronic back problems since I was 15.
