Guest guest
Becky, I am sorry to see you quit attending church due to others pestering you about how you feel... Jerry would be in heaven to have 2 people give a damn enough to call him.. much less see someone in person.. I know what you mean though, when you dont feel good thats the last thing you want to hear is a pile of questions shot at you time and time again as yoiu have to repeat what you have said numerous times.. How about asking the people who are concerned to stop by and visit.. let them know nicely, that this is your only chance to quiet down and attend worship.. but that you d love to have some company or that youd give them a call when you are feeling better.. sounds to me like youre not feeling well.. and it is getting on your nerves.. but always remember it could be worse.. you could be isolated with no contact with caring individuals.. and think.. hey those are how many more people that you can inform about pancreatitis.. and dont think for a min. that they wont also tell someone!!! Im a cosmetologist and i have customers saying oh.. i talked to this girl ..and she knew someone... and i was so surprised that they had thought to discuss jerry with someone else.. I was so glad to hear word trickling out.. bit by bit.. they see jerry and think hes fine. for all his appearance.. but then they also are aware of our hosp trips and trials at home.. um i tend to be a motor mouth at work and in my life elsewhere.. theres not a secret in my house!!!! i want all to know about this..Are you getting any time to yourself to calm and relax?? I hope this isnt negative sounding i dont mean it to be.. Just count your blessings.. you have people who will go out of their way to ask how you are...... Guest guest
OOOPs.. sorry Becky, i also wanted to ask ..do you have someone else who goes with you? that they could intervene on your behalf and relate the latest news.. and let others know youre too tired to rehash all the details?? I got to thinking,, yeah that would wear Jerry out too .. Im the one running around spreading the news.. hed be too overwhelmed as well to keep dealing with people.. I hope you , and as i see Andre, who is a fountain of knowledge, and Debbie as well dont let the disease totally isolate you from those who try to care.. yes there are insincere people out there but for the most part i think we all would like to know what you go thru to be educated and involved..try taking up the questioners for running tasks for you.. youd be surprised how many people may really care.! I hope yoiu all are in better spirits today.. Id hate to get my head ripped off .. after all im not in your shoes.. just live with one who suffers as well... Guest guest
Hi all, So many of you are talking about the frustration of people saying you look better and 'when are you going back to work?' I thought I had gotten over that until one of my neighbors(the complex watchdog) asked me if I was back to work because I sure was going out a lot. Boy did that hit me the wrong way! Since when do I have to account for how many times I go out of my apartment to anybody? She has no idea what it feels like to be cooped up in your house when you are so nauseated you can't even speak and have to hook up to an IV every night for 14 months. Thank the Lord I don't have the IV anymore...but life is far from normal. Do I take the time to explain it to her? NAH! It's not worth the effort. We all nedd to get past the point of worrying what others think and the only ones we need to be accountable to are ourselves and God. Can we do it? Guest guest
Hi Celeste, Back pain is common with Pancreatitis. In fact, I was told by one of the ER Drs. that when the Pancreas is in a flare, it is basically sitting on the spine, due to the inflammation, so the pressure is what causes the back pain...hope this makes sense..... Guest guest
hi robin, jerry's shoulder pain could be related to his gallbladder. they usually say that your shoulders hurt when you have a gallbladder is in an attack. I haven't had any pain in my shoulders since my surgery. well good luck!!!! david

Can we do it? Diane God's Blessings to You! >> Diane and all! There are people that are just nosey people that really don't care and we do not owe them explanations about our lives. Because this disease not only impacts our lives but also our family's and friend's, we do need to at least try to realize that those closest to us hurt along with us too. We do have to try to remember not to alienate those who truely care and maintain that compassion that they show to us. For me, just trying to stay focused on living a Christian life and loving others helps keep me balanced. I just really try not to let those whose intention is to be nosey get me upset or angry. This is very difficult sometimes when they are not only nosey, but pushy as well. I count my blessings that I have my church family and friends who are asking about me because it is easier to just let it drop when there are no easy answers or quick fixes. People often pull away from those who need their attention the most when they feel helpless to make things better for them. If they just know that their care and concern is what is important, it may also be easier for them as well. I hope this doesn't upset anyone. I am just hoping we keep perspective on how our disease also impacts others around us. We may be having a great deal of physical and emotional pain and trauma from it, but our loved ones are also having a great deal of emotional trauma as well. As someone suggested previously, we may need someone to intervene on our behalf when we are physically and/or emotionally unable to cope with questions or inquiries, but just remember those that truely care do not generally give up easily on us either. For some who just don't know what to say, how to say it, or how to help us may pull away temporarily. We may need to reach out to them and let them know that just knowing they care helps. Just my perspective on things. I've been on both sides of this picture not only as a survivor of this incredible disease, but also as a caregiver to others who have chronic deteriorating conditions. I see myself as a survivor even though I'm still struggling with the disease process. Today has been relatively pain free and I have been able to function somewhat normally for a period of time now, about a month. I know there will be future battles to conquer and some I'll do better with than others. I just chose not to be a victim. Having to come to terms with how my life is different was difficult and as this disease progresses I'll have other bridges to pass. I just want to chose how I pass those bridges. My frame of mind and emotional status is critical in how well I deal with this disease. Staying centered and focused on the important things in life is difficult, however the benefits are wonderful!!!!!!!!!! Sandy
