Guest guest
Thanks for your concern, Caitlin. I can really relate to the pain you are having in your hips and wrists and difficulty getting out of a chair! The prednisone worked great! I started taking orally it for my asthma and then continued for almost eight months. My doctor thought maybe this would 'cool out' my immune system. I experienced almost no pain and my angioedma went away. I had energy! I remembered who I used to be. I realized I was not lazy. I loved doing dishes, etc. My sofa ceased to be a second bed. I remember the first day I realized I had not laid down to rest once. Unfortunately, the side effects of prednisone were to dangerous for me to stay on it. The weight gain I didn't care about, but my blood sugar started to go up. I titrated down one milligram a week. Anyway, I have been so fatigued! Today I saw a story on the internet about a teenager who has 'Sleeping Beauty' syndrome. I forget the real name. I ended up researching 'myalgic encephalopathy' or chronic fatigue syndrome. It includes joint pain, trouble concentrating or remembering certain words, as well as fatigue and is often diagnosed as fibro. It made me wonder. I get tired of searching/fighting for a diagnosis and just try to deal one day at a time with symptoms. Then, again, I am like you, not wanting more injury because of a missed diagnois. Tonight I am fed up with all of it. I have taken refuge in Cherry Blow Pops (not good for the teeth) and other distractions. I will let you know what happens when I start taking the medication. Wishing you ease and comfort, J. --- In chronic_pain , Caitlin Kennedy > I'm really interested in this. I know my swelling/aching joints are not Fibro. Its scary to think about. Somedays my hips hurts so badly I can't get out of a chair and my wrists are the worst, can't use them at all sometimes. > > Did the prednesone not work for you? I just got a steroid shot for calcium deposits in shoulders and it always helps my achy joints for a short period of time and then it seems to get worse. > > Good luck , > > Caitlin >
Guest guest
, Again, this sparks my interest because you also have asthma. I had been diagnosed with allergy induced asthma and recently its gone into full blown asthma after repeated bronchitis and a serious bout of pneumonia. What do you take for your asthma? Now I'm wondering if there is a correlation between the joint swelling and lung capacity or something like that or maybe even the medication itself. It all started around the same time (joint+lung problems). I know I'm grasping here, but like you've I am just trying to make a connection. I use Advair and Albuteral inhalers. I have quit going to Drs. for a period of time due to being frustrated. The only Dr. I trust right now if my Pain Specialist. I'm thinking of making him my Primary Care Dr. because he has been so awesome. He wasn't even taking pain patients but after meeting with me and hearing my struggles he made an exception. I feel very lucky in that regard. It only took 8 years to find him!!! You might be having some kind of rebound affects from the prednisone and that is why your so tired? Its probably part of your diagnosis, whatever that may be. I go through periods of exhaustion but its usually tied to a particularly bad Fibromyalgia flair or depression. Anytime I get too overwhelmed with life BOOM! The exhaustion hits like a ton of bricks. You are right about the distraction part. Its about all we can do sometimes but it does work. I use music to soothe me when I'm stressed. I watch movies and books to escape reality for a little while. Never tried a blow pop though! LOL! Take care and hang in there!
