Guest guest
> > But, dang - do they really expect that this kind of treatment would help a depressed person feel *better*? Or is it just that they figure if they treat you like a pathetic nutcase long enough you'll go away? Yesterday afternoon I went onto the doctor's online system to send her the results of some fasting blood work I had as part of an employer-based health and wellness program. I was shocked to learn that after this last appointment, I was diagnosed with two new Health Issues: Histrionic person, and Narcissistic Personality. Now, this is ridiculous, but worse, it will affect the quality of my health care in the future. Who is going to take a histrionic narcissist seriously? I've got a call in to the supervisory doctor for the residents to see what can be done about getting this diagnosis revised, and we'll see what happens. I'd welcome any suggestions of what I might do at this point, aside from change doctors. That's a given.
Guest guest
Hi Who made those diagnoses????? I question their qualifications to make such a diagnoses. If they are not mental health professionals I would protest the validity of the diagnosis. I worked as a Mental Health therapist for 30 years. I can tell you that those are not common diagnoses. As a therapist, I would hesitate to use them in the presence of documented medical issues. If the doctor has a problem with your questioning the diagnosis and it was made by a non-psychiatric doctor, i would contact your local medical board to see what can be done or see a therapist and have them provide a diagnosis. There are codes that address psychiatric conditions which occur secondary to medical conditions. If you have documented medical diagnosis, they are the prime focus for your doctor. If your doctor feels that you have those personality disorders in the face of clear medical evidence of physical issues, then he needs to re-educate themselves. Many doctors are ignorant about mental health issues. they get a short period of time in the area during their intern stage. This does not qualify to make those type of assessments. hope you clear things up.
