Guest guest
Peggy, Our doc has all of us do the 5-6 mini meals a day. But remember, all of us avoid milk & sugar AND do varying amounts of protein supplement per day. So, we are fully nourished, no starvation syndrome, so we can burn more calories than those who don't supplement. It also takes the edge off hunger, so we eat less AT a meal. I can see no reason why I disrupted. There is evidence that this has been in place since 1997. Yes, 2 yrs disrupted and not a single lb? I'm not THAT pure, you know. But that's about the time I picked my protein up to 120g a day or more. AND started having one before diner, for example. HOWEVER, today, the symptoms of disruption are much more pronounced, so it's a mater of time if I grow first or my ins paperwork work goes through first. The pain makes it so I can't eat well some days, but can the next, so the amount of actually food stays down, but I still stuff the protein supplement in, no matter what, even if I have to line my stomach with Maalox FIRST. I am having my protein. Carolyn and I were doing some interesting studying this morning her medical book. The absorption of various substances is assigned to different stages of intestine, if I said that right. And so the degree of your bypass WILL determine your wt loss, will power or no. But the one thing that remains evident, is that you simply cannot get much protein absorption from FOOD. If you are bypassed, the food doesn't pas through the stomach and that's where the protein " grinding " occurs. Normally, it arrives in the intestine ready to be absorbed, broken down in the stomach. BUT since our food doesn't go there, even the MOST proximal will have some absorption problems. Supplemented protein solves the problem as it arrives in the intestine pre-digested, ready to be absorbed. And the right ones contains no fats, carbs, sugars, lactose, etc. So, the " good to bad " ratio is excellent. I've heard of the funnel 3 times now. And watched one of 'em, spending lots of time with him. He literally eats continuously, never gets full. It is SO weird for us! The stoma CAN stretch. I know it's not supposed to. We're not supposed to disrupt or have the separated stomach find each other, grow back together and disrupt AGAIN, either but we do. The body WILL try to normalize, no matter what! OK, more than you wanted to know! *** Please reply to me at: vitalady@... *** Thanks, www.vitalady.com

They're big (2.75 oz/78 g) with 270 calories (35 from fat), so I have half as a mid-morning snack and the other half in mid-afternoon. They have low-glycemic carbs (13 g), very little if any added sugar, and a whopping 32 g of protein. Plus they come in 4-5 flavors and taste great. They're made by Worldwide Sports Nutrition, and I get them online from www.netrition.com. Steve RNY 8/31/98 Dr Reinhold (Hospital of St Raphael, New Haven, CT) Down 168 lbs so far!!!!
