Guest guest
BHR in the UK. Some NHS trusts do it. Some don't It seems to depend on the individual surgeon. You can't choose your surgeon, so you may get someone doing their first BHS (ok - thy have to train, but not on my partner). Waiting list for a THR - 18 months. Then you only get a day or 2 notice (probably a week if you're lucky) - and if you don't want the op on that date - another 18 months wait!. So - private insurance - or pay for it. At least if you pay for it, you get to choose the date and the surgeon. We were quoted £9750. We have private insurance - BUT - no pre-existing conditions - of course, arthritis is almost by definition pre-existing!. McMinn has an approx 3 month waiting list. We didn't ask about mr Treacy? or other surgsons as I personally know 2 successfull mcMinn ops (3 years and 4 years). So - at lot of money - but Steve is booked in for mid-December!. And the waiting list is 'currently' 18 months - who knows what it'll end up as - as I say, you don't get any indication of a date until a few days before. Good old NHS!. Even if you have private Health Insurance, you STILL have to pay for the NHS. If only they would fund part of our private OP as we are saving them money by getting it done elsewhere. By the way, the Royal Berkshire hospital apparantly has ONE hip-chap, and he operated on ONE day a week (excluding holidays etc). So no wonder there's a long waiting list. It may be possible to get transferred to another area - but that would mean joining the bottom of THEIR waiting list - another 18 months (he's been on the list for 12 months already). And no gaurantee of someone who's ever done the op before. etc. etc. And you must have heard rumours of the bugs in the NHS hospitals. And the food!. And the Cleaning. And the.......
