Guest guest
Hi Ladies, For what my 2 cents is worth... ya'll know I take Synthroid too. (Normally, when I'm not having my scans/treatments) My Primary Care Physician is also a Pharmacist and she said that Wellbutrin would be safe for me to take with Synthroid and so did my Endocrinologist. But they do agree that not *all* Anti-depressants would be safe for Thyroid patients. I hope this helps a little. *smile* Gentle Hugs and Love, Jacqui Re: Thyroid > >> I would stop taking the antidepressant and see if you improve. You really >> shouldn't take the two together. Guest guest
Hey, I got a question for you. Since surgery, I have been diagnosed with a multinodular goiter, which is causing hypothyroidism. Before they added iodine to salt this used to be common. Does anyone know if we might not absorb iodine anymore, and that is why I have this. I had a rny in March 1998. Thanks for input or suggestions. Guest guest
Thanks Teddy.....but first I want to go to that place on the web and check out the medical information that they have regarding taking both at the same time. Guest guest
Pam, Well I'm glad that it works for you. I trust my pharmasict more then I do my doc's Wellbutrin is one of the ones that shouldn't be used at all with an underactive thyroid. Anyone of the antidepressant that control norepinephrine can cause lots of problems with people who have thyroids disease both drugs control the metabolic system and when you add to that you get problems. If you trust your doc that's great just not what I would choose. I research everything before I put anything in my mouth and to me the risks are just to great. If I were to take an antidepressant I would take one of the older ones like elavil. They help with pain, with emotional disturbances and don't have the terrible side effect and don't interfere with the thyroid. I'm glad you are comfortable with what your doc has chosen. Did he do a serotonin level test? You might ask for an eeg to tell whether or not you have the permanent brain damage. It really depends how underactive or overactive that your were whether it gets under control or not. It can also be that even though your tsh levels are good that your t3 and t4 are off. They are doing a new study now that links it to FMS. Have you been tested for t3 and t4? I hope that I'm not coming across as being bossy or anything. I just think that knowledge is power. I used to be one of those that just took meds blindly and they have really messed me up so I quit doing that. When I was diagnosed they gave me Nuerontin and I took it blindly and lost 48 hrs of my life so now I check it out first. And honestly the druggist knows way more about the drugs then the doc's do. Big Hugs!!! Teddy

Guest guest
Pam, I research all over the web. I trust the mayo clinic for the drug research and I have several url's for the Fibro stuff but I think that Devens is the best. I honestly think that the pharmasict probably doesn't know what the doc is treating. I've found that they blindly fill prescriptions but if you ask questions they will tell you the things that you want to know. Wellbutrin is a good drug for some people my shrink actually had panic attacks on it and she was so relieved when it got out of her system. She can totally relate to the things I've been through because she has too. She said she has lots of patients that get panic attacks, social disorder, agoraphobia and other things on it. I think that for depression there are other meds that aren't so harse on the system. Zoloft is one of the best if you don't have thyroid problems. If you do I recommend a drug called vistaril. On the drug website it says that except they call it Atarax, just a different brand it's in antihistamine that has been around forever and hardly any side effects and works in a lot of ways, Mild tranquilizer, calms the stomach, mild muscle relaxer it used to be used for all kinds of thing till some of these other new drugs came in to play and they really aren't any better. If you'd like I will tell you how the antidepressants work on your system and how to help yourself naturally. Ask at your hospital if they participate in the indugent care program. We are on it even though we have insurance and makes pretty good money. you might also ask at the womans resource center if they have any programs to help. I know alot of people do. Oh also contact your local FMS chapter and they can point you in directions. so can the arthritis foundations. When I was young I wanted to be a nurse. I had kids and stayed home to be a Mom but I continued to study and keep up on things. New drugs on the market are a joke and you shouldn't be willing to try them. This is what happened to Phen Phen. Ya know the fad drug that made people skinny that they took off the market. This drug could have saved alot of us because instead of it forcing your body to do something that it doesn't want to do it helps your body produce the serotonin that it needs. Well the Docs were prescibing this to people with normal seretonin levels and they were going off the deep end. So off the market it went. To bad for those of us who have serotonin problems as it wasn't any more harmful they synthroid in patients who were lacking in Serotonin. I'm so glad that you have a great doc that makes the most difference. I have a good doc and he pretty much lets me call my own shots most of the time. Unfortunately he's just not well versed here so he's at a lose on what to do. Teddy

Teddy
Guest guest
Tosha, I don't know what symptoms exactly to look for. I just know that I started gaining weight and I knew that my mom and my brother had thyroid problems, so I asked my doctor to check it out....if you have FMS, there is a good possibility that something is wrong with your thyroid also....it wouldn't hurt to get it checked....it is just a simple blood test to check it. Guest guest
Debbie, It can cause further metabolic disturbances. All of the new antihistamines are mind altering and when you do that to your mind and you have other problem you can create new ones. I can cause your thyroid to stop producing altogether or might start it working again. It also effects the way your body obsorbs the synthroid. Synthroid should be taken on an empty stomach two hrs either before or after you have taken or eaten anything else. The iron in food will counteract it if you take it within two hrs.
