Guest guest
The fact that several of our forum folks have upcoming surgeries is causing me to remember my ankle surgery of several years ago. Thought this might be helpful: my ankle surg. happened due to a bad fall in which I broke three bones and dislocated the ankle. Was taken to the ER by ambulance. Once there, they splinted the ankle, then took my vitals etc., then soon afterward asked me to sign a Consent Form for surgery! I gently but firmly refused, since I had not yet met the surgeon, had no idea what was being contemplated, etc. I remember clearly that there were a lot of folks with open mouths as I said I was not ready to sign my life away. Eventually I did sign the form, of course, but it was after I met with the surgeon, had a full explanation of the damage I had done to my knee, what the surgery would consist of, how long the hospital stay would be, etc etc. In short, these are our bodies. Let us have control of how they are treated, in hospital, ER, office visits, whatever. Regards to all, Carolyn
