Guest guest
Hi all. I am having a problem finding the right medication to help with my very bad pain from a herniated disc (L-4/L-5). It happened in 1997, but was controlled by taking 1 or 2 10 mg Percocets 3 days a week. I have tried Oxycodone (10/320)-2 at a time and it helps the pain but I can only take it for one day. The second day I start getting sweats and feel sick. I have tried Vicodin (generic-10/500) 2 at a time but doctor only lets me take 5 a day which leaves a lot of time for pain--however, it does help a lot. I took Morphine Sulfate (15mg) and it made me so dizzy I couldn't even stand up and it made my breathing shallow and it felt like a weight on my chest. I ended up in the Emergency Room on that one. Then I got a Fentanyl Patch (25mcg/HR). This caused my eyes to swell up and terrible congestion in my head. I couldn't stop my nose from running even with Benedryl. It also made dizzy and confused. The most recent medication, Nucynta, doesn't do much for the pain, but caused a lot of congestion, eye swelling, some dizziness and nausea and shakiness in my hands. And it cost me $330.00. I tried the cortizone shots earlier this year and then in 2 weeks I had an epidural, and another epidural 2 weeks after that. This caused my heart to go into atrial fibrillation. I am seeing a chiropractor 3 times a week (for almost 3 months) and an acupunturist once a week (for almost 2 months). I know the Vicodin generic works for me and I suggested Norco generic so I could take more pills with less Tylenol. The Pain Specialist gave me the Nubynta instead. He said he might give me 6 a day of the Norco. But my metabolism is fast and it only lasts for 4 hours so that's a lot of time I'll hurt, however, it's all I can think of to do. I am also worried about long time use with Tylenol. I'm seeing a neuro surgeon on Friday but am really scared about how that would go. Any suggestions???? Is there any strong pain medication that doesn't have Morphine in it?
