Guest guest
>Pain is a miserable monster that when it becomes chronic makes a massive change not only in the person who's injured but in all the people in their family, all the people they meet and everybody else they come in contact with because when you suffer from pain 24/7 it not only effects your body and mind but it changes the way a person walks and talks. >I was keeping a daily journal for a long time last year but for me the longer I went the worse I started to feel because the entries were making me upset as I was writing them. Make sure that you keep your outlet that helps you feel more like a " normal " person because that is a balance point for you. >In my case my only outlet is to still be able to ride my Motorcycle. I pay for it the next day by more pain but it helps me to clear the crap out of my head. Hi Pete Welcome to the group. You are 100% correct that pain affects the person, plus the entire family. It's the same with chronic illness, especially anything debilitating. This is why I suggest counseling for the individual, and one or more session for that includes the immediate family or friends. Counseling has really helped me. My husband has joined me several times and it has been helpful for us to have a third party to talk to, and hear her ideas, and suggestions. There have been one or two counselors, and even a psychiatrists that I have fired because I could not work with them. I see a psychiatrist to manage my bipolar disorder, plus he handles all my pain medications. Journaling didn't work for me either, it just mad me very sad to look back and read what I wrote. Fortunately it does help many people. One thing to do is simply keep a pain chart to take with you to your doctor so she can see how you are doing. What interests do you have besides riding your motorcycle? I can certainly see how riding it clears your head. It is extremely helpful to have a variety of activities that give you pleasure. There are so many Yahoo groups who talk about things, that surely there is one that talks about motorcycles. I belong to a yahoo book club, that is helpful to me. We don't chose any particular book, we just talk about what we are reading. We also recommend books to each other. This way there isn't any pressure, just pure fun. Reading is one of my favorite things to do, and a good one certainly helps me forget my pain for a few hours. Netflix, has been a fantastic resource for me. All those televisions programs, movies, and documentaries to watch. I hope you can find something in addition to your riding your motorcycle for pleasure, that won't cause so much pain.
